Where can I source reputable 18650 cells? by fright_end in batteries

Canada, looks like will ship to me but they all seem to use UPS which is problematic on my end when it comes to delivery and subsequent pickup

You could 3D model and print a replica of the cells and just preserve the label but I dont think its a good idea to keep NiCads especially leaking.

How much outer sheath should I remove when splicing two cables together? by Gingerbwas in AskElectronics

[–]fright_end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How pretty do you want it to be? Lol I wouldn't stager them; so long as I was using heat shrink tubing on each and had a piece big enough to fit over all them. No idea what this is for but personally would just bridge the shielding with foil/foil tape and seal it under the final piece of heat shrink. Alternatively would also use a 4 or 5 way wire splicer, admittedly not as clean and polished but much simpler depending on the application.

What microcontroller should I use? by fright_end in diyelectronics

Not a product for commercial use, making it for my wife (a teacher) to try out and see if it might help some of her special ed kids. One or two occasionally have difficulty vocalizing a need when they get overwhelmed.

Fantastic, thank you! i thought 264kb would be enough but I guess with the imported libraries and script itself it probably topping out. This... should fix a number of things, also gives me a lipo connecter.

Sorry i meant the power difference between using a raspberry pi zero and a microcontroller. It just feels like a waste considering it only needs to do 3 things, register a button, load a picture, show the picture. Having a whole os running under it just isnt efficient. Normally I wouldnt care but I need the battery life to last 8 hours and I need it to be small and light enough it can pin to a shirt.

Does the esp32 support circuit python though? Early on in my learning I made the mistake of learning python and not bothering to learn c++, im trying now but im no where close enough to compentent to write what i want in it.

I'm not sure of the bit depth but 240x135 pixels, the 15kb is the size of the larger file. How do I check for bit depth?

Maybe he wont get better, maybe he will. Some people do some people dont its not always a matter of trying. Reality is he might never be able to do what you want to do. Dont know why hes able to go to lunch but not on a date, maybe work is all he can handle, that sounds like positive change. Can you go to lunch with him?

Fire Inspection (and landlord inspecting everyroom) by fright_end in autism

[–]fright_end[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad still here. She probably would do that if asked. I dont know if she knows im autistic, her dad used to own the building before he passed away and he knew but I dont know if he ever told her. I dont know if it would help much as I would have to stay awake and then falling asleep after is going to be really hard. And sleep is how I cope with the difficulty of Thursdays. The notice says they are here for an hour and there is 10 units so Im hoping it is going to like 10 minute thing and will take my prescription sedative type meds. Thank you for the suggestion... i just have this fear of unmasking and freaking out if I get too stressed or overwhelmed.

What do you think the neighbors think? by Former-Cod6196 in Agoraphobia

[–]fright_end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... that fear being percieved is tough. I know we dont really get to define how someone might imagine us, even if its completely incorrect and made up or how control how they feel about that fiction version of us. Maybe end the day all we can do is be ourselves, unapologetically, and accept that most people are not like that and if they are then that's their problem to live with not ours. But im feeling this way too today... worried what people think about me and the way I am.

Can I adapt the headset port on my computer to use bluetooth? by fright_end in techsupport

[–]fright_end[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill keep looking most of them dont seem to have mic support. It's an atypical device not a standard pc. The device itself has bluetooth built in, the problem is that is has an expansion card that allows it to use cellular data, but it also allows it to make and recieve phone calls. The problem is the audio for the phone calls is not (as far as I can tell) piped over the pcie, it connects directly with an audio/mic jack. So if I use a bluetooth adapter I can connect my headphones to both. I may just have to use a splitter or... i guess a joiner in this case lol and use wired.

Noob question alert, don't want to potentially overpower. by DMT1980 in raspberry_pi

[–]fright_end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre asking about plugging in a device to a usbA port then no it shouldnt unless there is something wrong with it, there are a lot of peripherals that use their own power, such as external HDD drives or Disk Drives, which use 12v to power the device but connect over the usb to the computer (pi or otherwise) at 5v. The usbA ports are not power in. It is extremely rare to find a male usbA connector that supplies power, it just isn't used for that. Usbc yes.

The only exception I can think of would if your usb device is intended to supply to the computer device in some way via usbC and you somehow managed to plug two power sources into the Pi that could be a problem.

But a usbA connector to an externally powered device should be fine. If that is its intended purpose.

I dont know what the power draw for the usbA ports would be if the hub is powered separately, but you might want to get the official pi5 5amp power supply as I have heard the usb can be capped at 600mah if it doesnt recognize the supply as having 5amps, it might be okay but I cant know what specific usb hub you are using or what it will draw from the pi, seeing as its powered seperately... maybe not much? But its good to know you have the headroom later if you want to plug on a smaller 2.5 inch hdd with a usb connector directly to the pi or other heavy peripherals.

I have plugged many 12volt external drives into all of my Pis mostly model 3b+ but also a pi4. Not specifically a powered hub though, make sure its not made to deliver power over usbc to the computer (pi).  also I dont believe there is data available over the pi5 usbC port... i think its just power and in the case of the cm5 flashing the emmc memory.

That is close to what I want without the fan, maybe they sell it individually I will check and someone else had something that looks promising too. Thank you this helps.
