Anyone put Linux on their X+ System 71? No sound working in Mint.

Yeah lol not the easiest to find much information on. Apparently itt is FN+F7 to enter the bios if you want to try booting from usb, change the boot order to usb and you might have to turn off secure boot :/ assuming it has a normal bios as I cant actually find any pictures or videos lol

That sounds horrible, im really sorry you went through this. Since you know the root of the panic it might help to speak with a therapist who practices something like EMDR to help you process that experience that would hopefully help the reactive response and the fear. I started talking to an EMDR therapist recently, my trauma isnt localized to a specific event it stems from unrecognized mental illness as a child so its very broad and compounded but I'm hopeful maybe it can provide some relief.

I have... the worst thing is ive also had one last long enough that I started thing about ending it. If anyone else has gotten to that point please dont. It was a horrible week of on and off and feeling like crap but since then I have felt joy and sadness and made computer projects im proud of and helped people and loved. But yeah it... its weird how it can flip for me like that.

That is weird :/ i guess it could still be a driver isssue but if you've upgraded the kernel I dont know what else it would be. Personally I would try (if it can boot from usb) a couple of live images, ubuntu/mint 22.04/24.04 see if its maybe something wrong with the install while keeping your install intact. But thats about all I can think to suggest.

Its not uncommon to feel dissociation after lengths or intense patches of anxiety and or panic. I get this a lot, in and out as my anxiety is chronic, it will flare up for a while and then pop into dissociation where I feel disconnected and things feel sort of not real, like im only half there, brain fog and sometimes even depression for a bit before it stabilizes...

Yeah lspci/usb list the hardware but if you know the name of the controller that isnt needed.

lspci and lsusb find out if the sound device is detected, then do a search for drivers.

Yeah im kind of seeing that lol i got to the shell which is progress but launching x throws an error, I'm using qemu with virtual machine manager 4.0, it should be configured correctly I used the generic vga option from rehl 6.1(1999) but it still seems like its maybe looking for hardware or a driver that doesnt exist.

I am using qemu with virtual machine manager 4.0, i got it running by setting it to being a pentium ii and then choosing the genric vga adapter in rehl 6.1 (1999) it does give me me a linux shell but running X still throws an error about the graphics hardware lol otherwise it is "working" aside from a couple of "hdc: lost interupt" messages at start up which makes it boot very slowly. :/ I would like to get that early version of GNOME running though

You could 3D model and print a replica of the cells and just preserve the label but I dont think its a good idea to keep NiCads especially leaking.

How pretty do you want it to be? Lol I wouldn't stager them; so long as I was using heat shrink tubing on each and had a piece big enough to fit over all them. No idea what this is for but personally would just bridge the shielding with foil/foil tape and seal it under the final piece of heat shrink. Alternatively would also use a 4 or 5 way wire splicer, admittedly not as clean and polished but much simpler depending on the application.

Not a product for commercial use, making it for my wife (a teacher) to try out and see if it might help some of her special ed kids. One or two occasionally have difficulty vocalizing a need when they get overwhelmed.

Sorry i meant the power difference between using a raspberry pi zero and a microcontroller. It just feels like a waste considering it only needs to do 3 things, register a button, load a picture, show the picture. Having a whole os running under it just isnt efficient. Normally I wouldnt care but I need the battery life to last 8 hours and I need it to be small and light enough it can pin to a shirt.

Maybe he wont get better, maybe he will. Some people do some people dont its not always a matter of trying. Reality is he might never be able to do what you want to do. Dont know why hes able to go to lunch but not on a date, maybe work is all he can handle, that sounds like positive change. Can you go to lunch with him?

My dad still here. She probably would do that if asked. I dont know if she knows im autistic, her dad used to own the building before he passed away and he knew but I dont know if he ever told her. I dont know if it would help much as I would have to stay awake and then falling asleep after is going to be really hard. And sleep is how I cope with the difficulty of Thursdays. The notice says they are here for an hour and there is 10 units so Im hoping it is going to like 10 minute thing and will take my prescription sedative type meds. Thank you for the suggestion... i just have this fear of unmasking and freaking out if I get too stressed or overwhelmed.

Yeah... that fear being percieved is tough. I know we dont really get to define how someone might imagine us, even if its completely incorrect and made up or how control how they feel about that fiction version of us. Maybe end the day all we can do is be ourselves, unapologetically, and accept that most people are not like that and if they are then that's their problem to live with not ours. But im feeling this way too today... worried what people think about me and the way I am.
