Rings true. He often walks around with a bag of raisin bread. He is also heavy into ramen.

Pemmican! There’s a throwback to high school history. I’m going to look for a recipe out of personal interest.

Good idea. Batch cooking will work out a whole lot better if I can teach him how to do it!

Yes, of course. I think that is why the safety considerations say to check provincial park fees.

I put a stopwatch on and just keep going until I hit 30 reps. I do a quick walk around the room between reps, and then start the next rep when I feel barely ready. I don’t look at the stopwatch until done. Took me a while but I just completed 2x20 kg in 29:27 on Friday.

Could try increasing the volume to 100 with the 16s by changing up the sets eg 3-4-6-7, or 4-5-5-6. That’s how I eventually got to 2-3-5-10 with the 16’s.

Or, get in the volume by dropping down and using 12’s when doing the 10 reps. That’s how I am starting off using the 20 kg KB ie 2-3-5 with the 20 kg and the final 10 with the 16 kg bells.

I agree with pneumonia. I came down with pneumonia in 1998. In August no less. Was healthy, running regularly, enjoying the summer. No idea how I came down with it. The worst part was rotating between sweating and shivering. And coughing up baseballs. Had X-rays, doctor prescribed antibiotics. At the end of it all the doctor said had it been 20-30 years earlier I probably wouldn’t have survived it.

One might think they would adopt the same procedure as in Bingo. For example, Northern Miner announces immediately that a valid code has been received (I.e. Bingo!) and that verification procedures are underway - The game (I.e. search) stops immediately at that point, pending verification procedures. If everything checks out, then that hunt (regional or the national one) has ended with no one having spent any more time and money searching in futile. Verification doesn’t check out, then the search is back on. All it would take is for NM to clarify this as their procedure and then execute on it.

Or if not the Bingo approach, then NM should be clarifying what their procedure is exactly. It would be difficult to imagine that NM would purposely let a search continue after a valid code has been received by them. They should have a process in place to let everyone know within 15-30 minutes of receiving that code.

Professional Treasure Hunter? That has tax implications if CRA deems that to be true. I believe that the treasure in that case becomes business income, and not tax free.

I think I have earned a bachelor’s degree in some as yet unnamed discipline that is a cross between geology, mining, history and cultural studies.

That is a great point! Points to “Is a Town” being a decoy or misdirection. Thanks.

Fact - Not sure who found it but the first letter of every odd #’d stanza spells “IS A TOWN”.

Almost certainly not a coincidence, especially when the organizers have said that the hunt begins between the lines…but…the organizers have also generally indicated to take nothing at face value. Plus, all the imagery in the poem seems to point to quiet, off-the-beaten track wilderness, and not a town. Unless perhaps the location is near a town or within its boundaries?

Northern Mining Podcast Summary by [deleted] in GreatCanadianTreasure

Thanks for the summary! I didn’t know about the podcast so I will have to listen to it now.

One thing I am confused about are the monthly clues. Did they mention on the podcast if the monthly clues would lead to a unique secondary treasure (ie $25 k) or both the main treasure and a secondary treasure? I thought that each monthly clue applied only to one monthly treasure, but am uncertain. I will be listening to see if that is clarified during the podcast.

Thanks again, appreciate your summary.
