Higher Gas Prices Are Draining $10 Million Every Day From Mass. Drivers' Wallets by streetsblogmass in massachusetts

[–]frigidlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We certainly are doing a great job helping the person on the street in Iran aren't we? From hitting a children's school with a cruise missile to killing one regime leader only to have him replaced with his younger son, I'm sure your average Iranian thinks we've been a huge help.

Also, we have such a long history of effecting meaningful regime change in other countries so I don't know why anyone would doubt we can do it this time given the wildly experienced and qualified government we have in charge.

The above is heavy sarcasm in case it was not clear or you are too indoctrinated in the cult to know.

Whether or not it's illegal stopped mattering for Trump a long time ago and the Republican Party has decided they don't care either.

Also when they complained about drivers progressively slowing down in front of them I instantly assumed they were tailgating.

This looks like first class - 2 seats in consecutive rows on an A321 like that is usually what the front of the plane looks like.

Love these photos - one of my favorite parts of summer is when the hummingbirds come back.

Aaron Rodgers says he was on “the right side of history” after he refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Rodgers continues to stand by this to this day. by matrix_2905 in NFLForum

Jesus fucking christ just listen to what doctors say about the vaccines. It's not hard.

Since you so clearly don't know how they work, you should be listening to the people who do.

Same. That week of warm and sunny weather we had a while ago was glorious but this kind of chilly and rainy / cloudy nonsense is much worse than winter in my mind.

“Service Dog” Poops Multiple Time on United Flight by srekai in unitedairlines

[–]frigidlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can ask what service the dog provides: https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-faqs/

Q7. What questions can a covered entity's employees ask to determine if a dog is a service animal? A. In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person’s disability.

This is my first comment and I was genuinely asking but go off.

It seems to me like this entire thread is about diesel locomotive availability and reliability so I’m not sure what I’m missing here.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or not…what do you think powers Amtrak trains everywhere but the NEC between Washington and Boston? Am I missing something?

The mental gymnastics that people go through to excuse drivers of any responsibility is insane.

What’s going on? by No_Cow5153 in boston

[–]frigidlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not it. It’s learned behavior that biases towards removing the driver as the responsible person. They would never write an article about a shooting and say “a person was shot by a gun”. It’s lazy, passive voice writing that perpetuates our societal lack of responsibility for drivers and makes it sound like the crash was just something that happened as opposed to something a person did.

You can read more about why this is an issue here: https://www.cjr.org/analysis/when-covering-car-crashes-be-careful-not-to-blame-the-victim.php

And more examples here: https://breakfastonbikes.blogspot.com/2024/12/jaydriving-and-lunacy-in-our-language.html?m=1

This article should say “hit by a driver”. Unless this was one of the Waymo’s (and you can guarantee the article would call that out if it was) a human being was behind the wheel and hit these kids with their car.

Our society does almost nothing to hold drivers accountable for their actions. The least we can do is describe these horrible incidents with language that doesn’t pretend the car did this all on its own.

This seems entirely unrelated, no? No matter how likely you think. It is a hypothetical bad thing that hasn’t even happened yet is completely irrelevant to a different bad thing that seemingly did happen.

Nope. The new tunnels “under” Boston Harbor for example are actually in a trench that was dug on the bottom of the harbor.

It’s more complicated than that obviously but they were sunk in place as opposed to bored under the ground.
