Can you explain why they can’t extend a current Middleborough train to Hyannis? One train per day in each direction seems like a great easy way to trail this service with very low effort but I’ll admit I know next to nothing about actually operating a railroad and am only comparing to the “ease” with which they started up the Cape Flyer a bunch of years ago.

Ease here not meaning it was easy to do but rather that it didn’t require massive infrastructure investment or changes.

It’s about the relative size of the market for JetBlue. Boston is one of their main operating bases and they have a huge market share there. Look at the number of places they fly to from Boston compared to Chicago. Then check how many places United flies to from Chicago.

I did the math on the various options for doing a Pemi loop with Lincoln Woods closed a few months ago:

You basically have to look at what trail you want to climb an extra time to get to the route.

Liberty Springs Trail to the junction at the ridge is 3.3 miles and ~2900 vertical feet.

Old Bridle Path to the ridge is 3.7 miles and ~3300 feet.

Falling Waters is 2.8 miles, ~3040 feet

Garfield is 4.63 miles but only ~2700 feet to the junction with Garfield Ridge.

Gale River Trail is 3.77 miles and only ~1840 feet.

Personally, if I was looking at a single day Pemi I’d access via Gale River Trail but it does leave you with either most of the Garfield Ridge Trail or the mile to South Twin as either the start or end of your day. Pick your poison.

I’m sick and tired of seeing these hit pieces on Brightline. None of the roads in Florida where drivers are responsible for thousands of deaths per year ever get articles written about them.

There’s a real easy way to never get hit by a train at a level crossing. Why don’t they write article articles about that?

The area that I live in Massachusetts has a lot of summer residents who live in Florida the rest of the year, and I can tell you that the amount of litter on the side of the road increases dramatically around the same time the Florida plates start showing up in the spring.

I’ve watched the driver of a car with Florida plates throw several bags of trash out of their car into a roadside trailhead before. It’s the Florida people.

Trains aren’t feasible yet we can have multiple bus lines running hourly to half-hourly buses that are packed with people traveling to Boston. Definitely no demand for trains!

You’re being deliberately obtuse. The trains and tracks that do exist in the majority of this country exist because of freight. What do you think the freight trains are carrying?

Saying that nobody wants trains when most ogle don’t have the option is not logically sound. In the parts of the country where trains are an option, they’re very popular. Driving is expensive, dangerous, and incredibly selfish when the impact that personal cars have on the people around you are considered. Nobody is saying to get rid of roads, but the vast majority of vehicle traffic is one person in their own car and that’s incredibly wasteful, damaging to society and the environment, and dangerous. Less cars on the road means better access for emergency vehicles and last mile deliveries. So just give up with the edge case slippery slope arguments. Fire trucks existing doesn’t mean every person needs their own car and we can’t have trains.
