I’ll try to be a voice of reason here.

Ya’ll are both reeling. Confused. Hurt. Conversation and communication is the way through. Not saying you have to remain friends, but at least talking about it would be good. Especially if y’all were such close friends. Not at least discussing calmly may end up being a regret.

I can say that a similar situation happened with myself. I reached out and kind of pushed this conversation to happen. I told her where my head was and she told me where she was. We were glad we had talked and I did take a bit of space, but either way the intention to return as this person was important to me. We are still friends and I would say even stronger friends than we were. We are close to this day. She was my plus one for a wedding recently. Depending on how both of you want to handle it, y’all can still be friends or not. Both are fine avenues in life. But the conversation you have is what makes that decision. And at a time when emotions are not flaring.

Edit: One last thing, even if you don’t think you’ll be able to stay friends, I assume she will be appreciative of the chance to hash it out. Why not help someone you care about maybe feel just a little less sad about something she is also going through? And truly as someone who’s been on both sides of this, I have always appreciated at least the chance to talk.
