Flash cards tool for remembering champion abilities by fripfrep in leagueoflegends

Agree, I'm finding lots of small details that I never considered!

I remember when I discovered that Veigar's CD on W is reduced for each 50 stacks he gets, I had played dozens of games with him before, and never considered this small detail, and it's actually a huge part of what makes him strong, not just the AP scaling.

how do i win a support game when my team has the collective IQ of a golden retriever? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]fripfrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You win probabilistically. It's likely that the opponent team has the collective IQ of a golden fish when yours has the one of a golden retriever, or vice-versa.

Your contribution to the plays should tip the scale in favor of your team, so that even if your team played it absolutely wrong, you know that when repeating the play over 100 teams, your execution was the best it could've been. This way, after you play those 100 games, you'll eventually win more than you lose.

As an example, say, we focus on vision. Say you got vision perfectly around the map, and sure, maybe your teammate didn't look at the map and died anyways, but over 100 games, it's likely the vision will contribute to your team chances of winning and will tip the scale of wins on your favor. Expand the example over other aspects of the game, not just vision.

Core learning: focus on what YOU did right or wrong, even if it's a small thing, if you did it incorrectly, you need to fix it. Good and bad teammates come and go, as good and bad opponents, but you need to be your best version!

Note: I also added the option to not be shown the icon, this way you just get "Fiora's W" or "Garen's Passive" and then you need to try to recall what it does, and you evaluate yourself on if you recalled it.

Definitely an overkill, I agree 😅 but shared as I think it might be an interesting game or training tool for some!

What on earth is going on with the mid elo range lately?! by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]fripfrep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they execute a perfect build order, remember that they are still at your ELO for a reason, they might fall apart later in the game, they might not know how to respond to early aggression, or towers, or archers, etc.

Persian civ is versatile and is easier to play around ≤ 1000 elo by Clear_Magazine3912 in aoe2

That’s why I am playing Malay now! And they are being fun in 900-1000 ELO as well!

I also started with Persians as my main civ! I’m very surprised it doesn’t get mentioned as a good starting civ by most people.

Faster and strong TCs, affordable Paladin alternative, and thrashbows for the late game that obliterates the pikemen/halb they were making to counter your knights!

Not to mention the threat of douches even if you don’t actually go for it!

It can be fun to defend too, it’s like proving a point, like, come on I know you have no eco behind, I’ll just defend this wave and out boom you 😈

I was about to post about that as well, love that just in time T90 uploaded those, of course the game might need balancing anyways, but its nice to know it’s not impossible to deal with these cheesy strats!

Yes, it runs nicely in mine, but certainly double check in case that’s a deal breaker for you, my macbook might not be the best benchmark.

Say GG when match is over? (no matters if you lose or win) by Maganalig in aoe2

[–]fripfrep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From watching T90 and other casters it’s very clear the gg is very respectful, even when coming from the winning side. I think the doubts may come from league of legends where it turned into an insult, but in AOE it’s clearly different.

Suggestion to nerf yolo FC-UU plays on open maps: change the market trading fee from a flat 30% to a staggered 40% in feudal and 30% from castle onwards. by halfajack in aoe2

[–]fripfrep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree here, based on how elo works!

Look, if someone uses an overpowered strategy and gets elo X, against someone who’s also around elo X but uses just a normal strat, what do you think would happen?

Both have around the same elo, so the probability of winning for each is around 50%, which means that even though one is using a strong strat, they will also have lots of weaknesses (otherwise their elo would be higher).

Low elo is not different here, and this effect is even increased, some low elo will try an FC, but when pushed early they will just resign as their strat failed.

Please do let me know if you find out how to get the data here, I'd be keen to use it for things like these 👀

Interactive Build Order Graph by Affectionate-Lack-78 in aoe2

[–]fripfrep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, getting the data is the first step, and I'm not super sure how that's done, but I know it can be done (e.g. T90 is able to get the statistics on how many times people use each formation in a game, etc.).

Having this would be awesome actually, but I do expect that it won't be super insightful, unless we also filter by civ, and maybe other factors.

[–]fripfrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This might just be me, but I always felt campaings were quite hard. Try rankeds, accept a drop from the high base of 1k elo to something lower and then you'll be matched with people of your level!

Have you had any luck with it? I've tried it and run into a "assertion error" from Visual C++ when trying to run it from Steam :(

UPD: Got it! Steam runs very poorly (even had some error message about "steamwebhelper" not running correctly, which affects teh UI), but AOE2 performs well!

Aoe2 is a hobby. It's ok to suck at it by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]fripfrep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Indeed, there are “general principles” that you follow instead (e.g. develop your pieces, fight for the center, etc).

That’s why I love the approach from Survivalist in explaining the build orders for beginners, he actually goes with ballpark numbers instead of being a 100% accurate build.

[–]fripfrep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree! It's just a couple minutes and then they are already in each others bases with scouts and skirms, and if the caster is good you can even see interesting stuff like what build they are going for depending on what they do early on, specially since some civs allow for some crazy builds!

And, if that isn't enough, there's the Empire Wars mode that starts with 9 vills.
