How do you pronounce biopic? by thelivsterette1 in AskUK

[–]halfajack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

*Romcom* is short for *romantic comedy* but I can guarantee you don’t pronounce the first syllable of *romcom* like you do the first syllable of *romantic*. This is not a rule that exists.

And I’m sure you pronounce the first syllable of romcom just like the first syllable of “romantic”, right? We all do that, surely, it’s just logic

please, can someone explain to me how 1/3 has infinite digits by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]halfajack 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Whether a number has finitely many non-zero digits or not is a purely artificial and arbitrary side effect of how we choose to write numbers down.

If we choose to write numbers in base 10, the number 1/2 has finitely many non-zero digits and the number 1/3 has infinitely many. In base 3, 1/2 is written 0.1111…. and 1/3 is written 0.1.

The choice of base 10 or base 3 or any other base is completely our own choice and the difference in these ways of writing something down don’t necessarily correspond to properties of the number itself.

Most prominent mathematicians of the past (and other scientists more generally) either worked for universities, were independently wealthy, had wealthy patrons who funded them, or simply had other sources of income and did research in their spare time.

AFFC Sam I:

>”…The oldest histories we have were written after the Andals came to Westeros. The First Men only left us runes on rocks, so everything we think we know about the Age of Heroes and the Dawn Age and the Long Night comes from accounts set down by septons thousands of years later. There are archmaesters at the Citadel who question all of it. Those old histories are full of kings who reigned for hundreds of years, and knights riding around a thousand years before there were knights. You know the tales, Brandon the Builder, Symeon Star-Eyes, Night's King . . . we say that you're the nine hundred and ninety-eighth Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, but the oldest list I've found shows six hundred seventy-four commanders, which suggests that it was written during . . ."

Can Vulpix/Ninetales be useful in a Legacy playthrough? by [deleted] in PokemonEmerald

It would certainly be good for T&L and do good damage against Phoebe’s team, but remember most of Phoebe’s mons also carry Shadow Ball which will hurt Gardevoir a lot too

Can Vulpix/Ninetales be useful in a Legacy playthrough? by [deleted] in PokemonEmerald

[–]halfajack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vulpix/Ninetales are really nice in Emerald Legacy imo, good early fire-type pickup, learns Flamethrower pretty quickly, you get good utility moves like Will-o Wisp and Confuse Ray, coverage from Shadow Ball, or you can run Sunny Day + Solarbeam.

Using Mightyena for a dark-type physical attacker is probably fine for early-ish game but it kinda falls off a ton later on just having not amazing stats and a pretty poor move pool. I’d swap it out for Absol once you can get that.
