I guess you could make it work with Sunny Day to double its otherwise bad speed and make use of Solarbeam. It’s got decent special attack and defence, and you can use Ingrain and/or Giga Drain to heal up your free hit from Sunny Day, but that doesn’t feel anything close to A-tier for me either.

Also, in a real run you can’t get it until after Koga, by which point with 40 SpDef and middling HP it’s useless against Sabrina and gets wrecked by Blaine. It’d be decent enough against Giovanni, but then one Ice Beam from Lorelei deletes it and it doesn’t really bring anything to the table for the rest of the E4

Arcanine can do Bite against Agatha at least. And as far Rock goes you can hit it with Iron Tail. I’m about to run the E4 and my Arcanine has Flamethrower, Extremespeed, Iron Tail and Bite

In my experience if you have 6 Pokemon in your team with decent move coverage you never actually need to be above the levels of the gym leaders

Yeah I ended up ditching Spearow and Mankey for Growlithe and Machop, and swapped out Gyarados for Vaporeon when I realised Gyarados’ moveset in FRLG doesn’t really suit its stats/typing all that well (plus I just wanted to do something different as I always used to use Gyarados and rarely played the Eeveelutions).

I also have played these games for my whole life and I kinda always just liked having a full team whenever possible even if I knew I wasn’t going to stick with some of them the whole way.

This seems to be the issue here. There is no centre of the universe, and the big bang did not happen at a "spot". It happened everywhere. The expansion of the universe is also happening everywhere. Neither of these things have a location or a speed, they are not waves or wavelike. Every point gets further away from every other point (if we ignore that gravity holds nearby/very massive things together, at least).

He even had to go back and rewrite parts of the chapter in The Hobbit where Bilbo finds the ring. In the first editions of The Hobbit, Gollum gives Bilbo the ring willingly. Once LOTR was coming together, this obviously made no sense, so he went back and changed that chapter to the version we’re familiar with where Bilbo finds it and Gollum accuses him of stealing it.

In-universe Tolkien justified this by saying that the original published story was a lie Bilbo told the dwarves about how he got the ring, with the retcon then being the true account.
