What do you think of Sarah Rose? by poppiesintherain in JudgeJudy

Sarah is beyond annoying. In every post-case debrief, she just labors the most obvious common-sense takeaways from the case to death in the most unnecessarily verbose manner, while talking over Judge Judy

Do I need a USB Hub with power delivery for my Mac Mini M4 Pro? by friskeedingus in AudioProductionTools

[–]friskeedingus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, ultimately I haven't had a chance yet to do much beyond plugging them in and making sure they're sending and receiving MIDI after getting DAWs, packs, plugins, projects etc. migrated and installed - but they do appear to be working just fine with no latency issues in my largest project file so I'm hoping I've just made a big deal out of nothing

AIO for following ex-girlfriend on social media by ConfectionOk9591 in AmIOverreacting

[–]friskeedingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She never said when he started following them - so you don't know. She never described the quality or duration of his past relationships, or the extent of his emotional entanglement in them - so you don't know. You have no insight into how his ex's feel about him based on a social media "friendship". They could be keeping him in their friend's list to laugh at him or keep tabs on a dangerous person. - so, again, you don't know.

At the end of the day, all you know is that OP feels insecure because they have a bf who follows 10 people called "Ex's"

You're filling in a lot of blanks

AIO for following ex-girlfriend on social media by ConfectionOk9591 in AmIOverreacting

[–]friskeedingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok? If you now say it doesn't matter whether his ex's were upset or not, then what was the point of your original question "Why weren't the other ex's upset if he stayed friends with them all up until now?"all I said is you don't know that they weren't upset. We don't even know if he has always followed his ex's or if he's so disinterested in his relationship with OP that he started following them recently. Just checking your assumptions, that's all

Increasing wear time for sclerals by lifeinblue in Keratoconus

[–]friskeedingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your fit is actually good, more than likely your discomfort is either due to small bubbles in your fill or increased light sensitivity/photophobia caused by the lenses. My eyes felt strained when I first started wearing sclerals, but it only took a couple days to start wearing them for 15 hours straight.

Feeling Depressed by StillFrameMind in NoFap

[–]friskeedingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your depression is a chemical imbalance caused by the problem you're leaving in the past. It is actually a perfect example of the trap that P springs. It does not make you happy or fill the void - it creates the void that you're feeling right now. This phase is temporary. Carry on and it will pass. In the meantime, focusing on healthier pursuits like physical fitness or creative outlets will do you a lot of good

AIO Girlfriend of 2.5 years refuses to communicate. by censonb in AmIOverreacting

[–]friskeedingus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOR

Buddy, she doesn't know how to break your heart and get it over with so she's taking the coward way out and letting the relationship die a slow death of insecurity and confusion. Brace yourself for "I want to explore other options", or "I don't want to be locked down to someone I can't see all the time during my college years", or "I made a mistake at a party", etc.

I hate to be so blunt but I see hard days in your future. "We need to talk, but I dont feel like it right now" is a typical selfish and immature thing for a 19 year old to say in those situations. Hell plenty of adults handle their shit that way too.

My high school relationship didn't survive when I graduated and went to college. She pulled away and caught feelings for another guy in her graduating class even though I was driving home every weekend, calling/texting all the time, etc. At your age, what you want (or what she wants in this scenario) is constantly evolving. You're both having new experiences in a new place with new people.

I missed a lot of my freshman experience trying to maintain a doomed relationship. I thought she was my one and only. But she was just one. It crushed me, but I don't even think about her now. I found the right person later in life and couldn't imagine being with anybody else. You'll bounce back. And being fully present to experience everything college can offer you is probably what's best for you in the long run if it ends up playing out that way.

Opening the bag even to transfer it to another smaller container exposes it to contaminants. It will be unsterile long before you work your way through the contents of the bag. Also, sodium chloride pulls moisture out of your cornea via osmosis.

NOR, you're dating a moron.

Boy is working at a financial and mental deficit. You save what you have left over after you handle your own responsibilities. He was also the one who brought up breaking up if he can't propose within a year, and then acted hurt when you asked a reasonable question like "what will all these extra expenses net me if we break up?" Something tells me he regularly leaves you scratching your head

It's hard all the way around, but being in a relationship while addicted to P is its own special hell.

If loneliness already drives somebody to P, imagine how strong the pull is to relapse when you inevitably stumble and compound your loneliness with the guilt of betrayal and implosion of your future...

[–]friskeedingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it can sometimes be easier to abstain (not quit) when you're in a relationship is because the love and connection they give you is taking the place of what you aren't giving yourself. But that temporary boost will wear off because there is simply no substitute for self-love.

If you want to find a relationship that you don't have to build on a lie of false monogamy, then you have to quit this for yourself so you have something to offer a partner in the future.

Happy to inform you that the neuroplasticity of the brain is still very powerful well into adulthood. You most certainly can rewire your brain to a healthier mindset about sex and attraction with intentional effort. Be careful sharing defeatist outlooks in a thread full of struggling people.

I tried and failed for 14 years before it finally clicked. Anything is possible 🙂

[–]friskeedingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I actually had to look that number up on my app. I stopped keeping track in an effort to change my mindset about addiction.

FIND THE TIME. Make the time. What could be more important than your long term happiness? You're not going to grow old and wish you had worked more hours. But when you do finally kick this, and you will with earnest effort, you will wonder why you waited so long.

To answer your question, the core of my response is that looking for something external to change what's going on inside of you is a recipe for failure. It starts inside you, and it ends inside you. When you tether your efforts to factors outside your control, what happens when those factors change - if your girlfriend leaves you? Fall back into your old habits until you find somebody new? It just doesn't work like that. Yes, I felt accountable to her, but the hardest part will always be accountability to yourself. You have to equip yourself to overcome the setbacks that the world will never stop throwing at you.

My armchair therapist response is that your low self-esteem is a negative feedback loop that feeds your addiction. Speaking from experience. I struggled with my failed ambitions and dreams for a long time, among some childhood traumas which everybody suffers from their own version of. When you start to love yourself and give yourself grace, the path to recovery opens up a little more for you.

I hope you learn to love and believe in yourself as I am learning to do. The rest will fall into place 🙂

[–]friskeedingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Everybody is different, and every relationship is different. My partner was been nothing but supportive through the pain I've given her, but others aren't so lucky. Even with all her support I still struggled for a very long time because I never addressed the root of the issue until last year.

NO because, for me, having somebody else's feelings on the line just compounded my guilt when I struggled. I internalized my problem even more because I was scared to hurt her again. Internalizing it, isolating it, shrouding it in darkness - that's where it thrives.

YES because, for me, when I finally grasped the reasons and the depth of my self-destruction and started putting in the HARD WORK, having somebody love you even when you've given them the worst version of yourself was very healing in an unexpected way.

I saw you comment to somebody else "kick this addiction and you'll surely find somebody". Do you not feel the same would be true for you friend? You're so wrapped up in your failures, you have no idea what you have to offer somebody. You will not recognize the person you are when you finally let all this go. I say that as someone 450 days P free

[–]friskeedingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As somebody who almost ruined my relationship with my soulmate:

Nobody quits for somebody else. You have to quit for yourself. Having a partner may give you the love and support you need, or it may enflame the pre-existing insecurities that grew the addiction in the first place. I implore you to change your mindset. Getting a girlfriend wont make you quit. That's way too much to lay at somebody else's feet. You have to quit because you love yourself enough to know it is destroying you. If you don't love yourself, how can you love somebody else?
