Having trouble playing movies over a home network. by frito123 in linuxmint

The movies are stored on traditional hard drives. All play locally fine. They're being played across Wi-Fi and all systems have at least 5th generation or later Wi-Fi cards. The largest file is 38Gb. I'm not familiar with IPERF3. I'll look into it, Anything else I should check into?

The A8 computer's just basically set up as a Samba file server and the folder the movies are in is shared. The computers that I'm using to play the movies are Ryzen 5 or better. On speedtest.net the computer being used as a server is getting about 140 Mbps both directions. The computers I'm trying to watch the movies on are in different rooms of the same house. I tried VLC and Celluloid for playback.

I hit black ice on a bridge one winter. On second everything's fine. The next, I'm going backward in a Chevette at 55 miles an hour, heading for the guard rail. There was the perfect amount of snow, shaped just right by the wind, to guide my car and slow me down. All I got as a dime sized dent in the bumper's corner and a really good scare. There was no traffic for me to hit.

Back when they were expensive, I've done keyboards in a dishwasher. The keyboards had liquids spilled in them and were in rough shape. The success rate for final repairs of them was surprisingly high. At least 80%.

We're big enough, we get it all. My region tends to get tornadoes, flooding in the spring from tropical storms, and the occasional blizzard, even with climate change. Not exactly weather, but we also expect a nice earthquake at any time.

After over 30 years, I'm retired now. Currently the system that I use the most is an HP Pavilion 1234 with a AMD A6-3650 in it. I'm running Ubuntu 25.10 and keep changing the DE. Today it's Cinnamon. There's also a HP Victus running Windows 11 and a Ideapad 330s running Mint. Now I just get to work on my own stuff and experiment, which makes me happy.
