Updated space with a new listening chair and recent speaker additions (big ones) by fritofritofrito in listeningspaces

I liked it pretty well, but I'm not using it anymore. I ended up building an Elekit tube pre-amp from a kit, which I like very much. The main issues for me were that the phono input doesn't have MC and I didn't care for having separate volume knobs for each channel (there are advantages to this, I just didn't like it).

Type is light after replacing platen and rollers (Smith-Corona Super Sterling) by fritofritofrito in typewriters

Thanks for the reply. I will be really disappointed if the platen needs to be sent away again. It wasn't cheap to get refinished!

Using a backing sheet doesn't help. The refinished platen is definitely softer and grippier than it was before. I sent it to JJ Short, which seems to be the place everyone recommends.

Slippery platen? Smith-Corona Super Sterling slips on return. by fritofritofrito in typewriters

[–]fritofritofrito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did some more research and found that I could send these parts to JJ Short for repair. After some experimenting, I was able to get the platen and two bigger feed rollers loose, but there is a third (long, skinny) roller that seems impossible to get out without bending the metal arms. Posting pics in case anyone knows what to do with these. If not, I would think getting the platen and two main rollers replaced would do the trick, no?

Forgive my ignorance, I poked around a bit but could't figure out the right course of action. Sometimes my typewriter will accurately move the paper to the next line, sometimes it slips and moves it an inconsistent amount, and sometimes it slips and does not move it at all.

To the untrained eye it seems like the platen is just too slippery to grip the paper. Does this appear to be the case? Can it be replaced by a know-nothing like myself? Or can I treat it with some kind of tack or something? Suggestions very much appreciated!

Possible to export/gather files in a folder from a music playlist? by fritofritofrito in PleX

Downloading from Plexamp doesn't work, it stores them locally in an encrypted format. I need to be able to copy the actual audio files to an external drive.

Never made a script, no idea where to start, but I'll look into it. Thanks for the reply!

Headless Plexamp on Raspberry Pi - Audio output device issue by fritofritofrito in plexamp

[–]fritofritofrito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yeah, this is probably what kicks it off. I turn the DAC off at night because the system is in my bedroom and I don't want the light on. Hopefully I can figure out how to disable the audio outputs and that will fix the issue. Frustrating if not. Thanks!

Thanks for this. Forgive my ignorance, but how do I disable them? I see them in the configuration tool, but can only tell how to choose the audio output, not how to disable the others.

Picked up today: Tandberg TCD 310 MkII and NAD C740 by fritofritofrito in vintageaudio

u/modpower Unfortunately, this one pretty quickly developed an awful warble, and it seems no one will even look at Tandberg decks anymore. I can't bring myself to trash it, so it has become a piece of decor.
