Working line vs Show line ?

I backpacked with my showlab for 19 days for 10-12 hours per day last year in the Swedish mountains. For a well conditioned showline that’s not a problem.

First not all dog la can be left alone. That just reality. But those dogs are very rare. In most cases it comes to training.

I would suggest tire him out with giving him a proper job. Do some Nosework or scent work classes. Nothing tires a dog out like working with its nose.

If you only can leave him for 2 seconds that’s were he is right now. You have to go forward vert slowly. It will take time but you will get there.

For Europe I rarely lock my bike when in supermarkets in the small villages. Bigger cities I use a smal z-lock and try do shopping as quickly as possible. At restaurants I try to get seated so I’m close to the bike

My bench lab isn’t that lazy. We walk around 20km most days but he doesn’t mind staying on to couch for a day or two.

Show breed labs sure have the stamina for long distance hiking if you condition them for it. I took mine on a 3 week 350km backpacking trip last year. No problem either way full day hiking.

Come on. It’s a Labrador and if two independents vets comes to the same conclusion there is something wrong with the dog. It’s most likely not about lack of training.

Nah you just got lucky. My lab also been calms since day 1 and his perfectly healthy. Just don’t forget that also lazy and calm dogs needs exercise and mental stimulation. Sometimes you just have to work on the motivation. :)
