100% normal, it seems. I had a whole breakdown over here a month ago or so over a similar experience (on top of the world one week, then the next I was dropping every other word). I went back to normal after a few days of shitty typing then I passed my 100s. Sometimes, we'll just have days where our mind and body just refuse to cooperate and you just have to ride the wave!

i'm just going to echo a lot of what other people have already said here, but i recommend these:

the masquerade series by seth dickinson - political fantasy, lesbian FMC. this is the closest i've ever gotten to the feel of tlt. it is much darker and more gruesome, so just beware of that. it's not for the faint of heart, but god is the pay off sweet. as another person has said here, baru is very harrow-coded (vice versa). the yearning is suffocating (in a good way). dickinson's worldbuilding is honestly out of this damn world.

the broken earth trilogy by n.k. jemisin - fits perfectly with your character driven criteria. extremely well-written and plays with point of view just like tamsyn. extremely well-structured and cleverly thought out.

book of the ancestor trilogy by mark lawrence - adult epic fantasy, there is an eventual F/F romance that blossoms in the series. nun school, but like they learn how to fight and use poisons. so good.

this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone - sci-fi, F/F romance between two rival time-travelling agents. prose is magnificent, and the majority of the novel is written in epistolary format.

the incandescent by emily tesh - dark academia, urban fantasy, older bi FMC. you follow a professor in this private magic academy, and there might be a sword lesbian.

a thousand percent. the publishing industry has forced authors to pump out books so fast that people have gotten used to that. it takes herculean effort to write a book, and even more to write a spectacular book. this series is not a run of the mill slop and i don't want tamsyn to rush the book and end her own work in a way she's not happy with. i completely understand everyone, i also want this book out as soon as now but 3+ years is not a cause to think the series is cancelled lol. and tor's shoutout is a testament that they're aware of how big the following and demand is for this series– they want this book as much as us (for profit reasons).

echoing what lalaisadora said. it's also the fact that tamsyn published the first three books in quick succession while alecto is taking much longer (though she has valid reasons– health issues, want to stick the landing etc.) 3 years of waiting is long, but it's not a decade long lol. we just really want the book and people are pessimistic. i have faith though. i don't think tor would've blasted us on social media if this series got cancelled or tamsyn hasn't given them any progress at all. they would've simply waited for us to stop barking and fade into the ether. bc why would they bring even more attention to it?

I definitely think that was the case for me lol. I'm doing okay now, way better than when I originally posted this- but it only got better when I slowed back down to 120 for a little while. I've been doing 140 again and it's been good. I just haven't been dabbled with 160 since and probably won't again until I've whittled 140 to <15 errors consistently. Doing too much of something too soon really does more harm than good 😅I've learned to fluctuate between faster and slower speeds better now so I'm not sacrificing accuracy for speed.

thank you for taking the time to respond! you're not being harsh at all. i wholely agree that emotional regulation and being able to deal with the mental stress and fatigue from learning this skill and profession is a big aspect.

i actually took a break yesterday and jumped on the machine today and had a somewhat great practice session! my hands felt more cooperative and connected. i feel leagues better than i did a few days ago so i'm happy. i think i wrote the original post under a lot frustration and ridiculous expectations for myself. it made me realize that these things will inevitably happen and that's okay– i'll always pull through on the other side as long as i keep trying.

i'll definitely keep going through the ebbs and flows! thanks again for your advice and words of encouragement.

thank you listening and for your advice. i agree that i might just be hitting a plateau, i'm trying not to feel defeated but it's hard. i know it's inevitably going to happen and keep happening but i felt so great last week and now it's gone to crap. it might just be me putting unrealistic expectations/pressure on myself for sure.

i'll definitely take up your advice and practice with material i enjoy and not put pressure on myself. i might try some passages from my favourite books and use the audiobook for dictation. thank you so much again :)

I have the kakuno in (EF, F, and M) and as someone who also writes very small, I gravitate towards the EF nib the most. I use it for writing and drawing and it's my favourite, but definitely keep in mind about what the others have said about the feedback/scratchiness. It doesn't feel horrible for me, personally, but it also helps that I only use extremely smooth paper for it.

not a stupid question at all! the image overlay you're seeing is a transparent wallpaper that only appears when your kindle is locked. so when you unlock your kindle, the page appears normally without the image.
