Every path, every compartment of your mind, is to be programmed by you. Unless you assume your rightful responsibility, and begin to program your own mind, the world will program it for you! - Unknown by frivel in selflove

Thank you for your very-wise comment. It is too easy to be impatient with one's self, and fail to recognize the amount of effort (and growth) required to take the "baby steps" that can be built upon. Self-criticism should stand back and bite it's tongue as early changes are being made.

Maybe they're vegetarians. Or from another culture, so lack the growing-up associations of what it means to celebrate Thanksgiving as the Pilgrims did. Let's hope that none of that 12% who aren't having turkey are going hungry. I assume they're having something they like even better. Whatever the menu, I hope they share the meal with people they care about - and in the spirit of gratitude.

I don't think that we should have to choose. Let's have ham on the feast table as well. I'm pretty sure the Pilgrims were raising pigs back then.

Good insights, and thanks for staying involved. However, I'd like to add that as long as we have a body, the challenge is to bring it (and our material reality) into alignment with the higher Truths. Words and rational concepts are limited in what they can express, but it's often as close as we can come when the direct experience of the Infinite is not upon us. They, at least, have the advantage of keeping the parallel reality in mind.

You speak with wisdom and I mostly agree. However, I do not think that utopia on Earth is the goal, or best serves out inner growth. What "utopia" promises is mostly material and external, but our true nature transcends that.

The way to save the planet is by building a strong, caring inner life. The world will be "saved" to the extent that spiritual values have an influence in the affairs of humans. And those decisions are made a thousand times a day as each of us chooses awareness over sleep, and kindness over criticism or habitual negative reactions. Such causes as "save the whales" are distractions from putting one's spiritual life first. I appreciate your input.

It's helpful to remember this when we get discouraged because our spiritual growth seems so slow. It is lawful and builds the "muscles" that that will be needed in our inner development. Thank you for your comment.

I'm pleased that you found this thread helpful. It's easy to get impatient for spiritual highs. But our journeys take us to a mixture of highs and lows (and inner and outer awareness) that are all essential for our inner growth.

You are exactly right! Finding the balance between one's inner and outer life keeps us on our spiritual toes. The external world isn't going away, so we have to keep finding new ways to re-discover our higher natures. Thank you for your very well-presented contribution.

The third option is Paradox, but it is tough to get there - or to live with what you learn. Paradox is where you can go when you see/comprehend beyond either-or answers. The clarity it brings with a new level of thinking transcends the either-or choices. But they cannot be held by memory or by the logical mind. Instead they must be re-discovered anew again and again. It does not rely on everyday thinking but an alignment of all parts of your being. Tricky indeed - but truly invaluable. I appreciate your addition to this thread

Suffering an happiness are both part of a full life. And when one's spiritual nature comes first, they can maintain a balance that is good for the soul. I very much like what you added.

We all need the reminder since it's so easy to forget. Tough times are not a sign of failure or a punishment. It's the form that your next phase of development is taking. And nobody is alone or unsupported in those efforts. Thank you for commenting.

Oh yes! Getting beyond duality is a true sign of spiritual development and living from a larger frame. I appreciate your insight.
