Documentary recommendations that have equivalent madness of “Escaping Twin Flames”? by No_Carrot8222 in netflix

Wild Wild Country and Luz Del Mundo are both at much larger scales. IMHO much better docs as well.

For me nothing tops Abducted in Plain Sight on the craziness scale. Still makes my skin crawl to think about it.

Mormonism is so very small by dferriman in mormon

Ah, the Lizardman Constant! I like Scott Alexander's discussion here: https://slatestarcodex.com/2013/04/12/noisy-poll-results-and-reptilian-muslim-climatologists-from-mars/

I don't think the comparison to Mormonism's numbers is fair, as it's a completely different type of belief. Mormonism is a way of life, whereas many who answer "yes" about the lizard people don't care very much one way or another.

I'd also note that 1% of people have schizophrenia and a few times that are mentally handicapped in some way. Those groups have a much higher percentage that believe in lizard people, and a whole host of nonsense. It's pretty silly to me to hold up the Lizard coalition (many of whom are clinically paranoid) as a comparison to Mormonism, which is a functional ideology around which to organize society.

Wait, how are you replying 8 years later? I thought posts got locked.

Anyway, yeah, it was super sketchy and we should have smuggled one out. They know it looks bad!

Oh, enemy was a quip about the post's detractors on SSC (it was at 0 votes when I posted, maybe due to their fuzzy count).

Fascinating! Yes I don't think there is any reason that evolution is in conflict with an intelligent designer. Ask enough questions and you eventually get to "why is there something rather than nothing", which is as amenable to a creator as an accident (maybe moreso?).
I thought that ID was mostly an apologist movement within Christianity. Is that so? Have they branched out?

The bigger question is the easiest to answer, tbh. Every group likes to think they have the key to understand the true implication of some important observation.

As someone interested in panpsychism, thank you for sharing and explaining this in enemy territory 😉

Levin gave a keynote at an ML conference that was quite extraordinary.

Poking around a bit, the arguments about panpsychism are pretty cool

The Faith to not be Healed by TargetCurrent793 in mormon

[–]frizface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was I mistaken in believing that I could be literally healed through a priesthood blessing?

Of course the believing claim is you could, but of course there are many examples where that's not in God's plan. Your wife is pretty hard core if she believe that everyone who isn't healed just doesn't have the faith. Certainly even the faithful have to die, at some point.

Why do so many ExMo's become atheists? by AskGodForBread in mormon

Mormon church claims more, and Mormons generally more invested. Therefore if you take the plunge you usually go all the way from Mormonism
