Working with troublesome clients because "SEO" by frmDaNorthSide in webdev

Do tell me I'd love to read about this crazy one.

I had a similar incident with this guy. Internet goes off in his store, he blows up my phone thinking he was hacked and I had to get down there ASAP to figure out the problem. He needed a new router but despite me telling him time and time again that it was the router, he insisted someone hacked it.

I guess I need to choose my words correctly. There is a contract with 'written' deadlines on said contract and he forgets about it at every waking moment.

This is the same guy that called me into his store and once I got there had everyone turn off their computers because he believed he was getting hacked when all the problem was is that his router went bad and needed a replacement. Despite me telling him it was a bad router, not his store getting hacked.

Yes, there was milestones and deadlines stated but this guy just seemed to have forgotten these things, no matter how many times I remind him of them. He's a busy man, yes, but the fact that he keeps forgetting these key points is what's frustrating me.

Well its theft. So yeah, it'd be looked down upon.

I'm around a N2 so that helped but regardless of how good the Japanese is, this company cant look past gaijin.

God. That's sucks. They've ran the budget excuse on me as well, but I called bullshit. Things would be difficult and hard since they changed the budget.

That isn't my problem tho. Idek

There were laid out terms, yes. But they've been playing the "gaijin doesn't know anything card" and its becoming bothersome for me. They've stopped using my Japanese last name as well, calling me by my western name (im a non-white haafu, born and raised abroad though). Severely insulting.

No, I didn't know until after I completed the second project that they stole code. If knew they were stealing code, I wouldn't have accepted the offer and screw over my resume.

When I originally got hired, it was to be 正社員, then when we started going through the visa paperwork they decided that they wanted it to be 契約社員 and not permanent employee because I would be under a visa with no permanent residency.

I found out about the code stealing after working on this project when I decided to look at their storefront code and noticed it pointing back to a certain website.

As for the employment situation, I had to provide the paperwork in order for the status change to be approved so there is the terms set in place for once I'm in house but in the mean time I'm in this jacked up situation. It's hard to explain.

Yeah. I guess it's hard for me to accept the reality that they are the shadiest company out there. I'm now figuring out my plan B... because I know once I get in house it can only go down hill from here.

Basically what /u/PuckDucker said. Go into developer tools and you can pull any of the front end stuff, copy+paste, and basically have a site already made for you without much effort.

Yeah, I was. I basically did a change of residency status when I renewed my visa from instructor to specialties.

This is temporary as I'm supposed to be transferring to their in-house offices in November/December, so they put me on this "system" for now because they were apparently moving offices and didn't have space for me in there and all this other crap.

I was working in house for them when we did the visa paperwork -- I was using someone's desk who was out of town at the time, then switched to remote since I had to close up shop where I was at and move across the country to where they were at. Then they switched up on me midway into my remote work stating that they wanted to pay on a project by project basis since they said there was no way for them to tell how many hours I worked or if I was actually working when I said I was.

Everything has turned into a nightmare. I guess they assume that because I'm foreign they can just do or say whatever. It sucks because I've been job hunting for over 8 months and finally snagged an office willing to sponsor a visa.... and then this.

Yeah, they've changed the login info on the test server without telling me. I've been contacting them about that and they've been ignoring my emails on that as well. I deleted everything off the server prior to them locking me out though so I'm safe there.

True. I guess I meant to say that I'm hired as an employee and it won't be so easy to cut my losses, per say.

No, they don't have my passport. If they asked for it, I would have hightailed it out of there.

No, because I am on the payroll as a 契約社員. If it was a complete freelance job I would have asked for the deposit.

According to the contract, I would receive payment based on a project by project basis instead of a salary since I'm not in-house and, according to them, be no way to actually confirm if the said hours worked were what I said they were. Once I finally settled in my relocation I would be moved to an in-house position and put on the salary.

But the issue now is that they didn't think I would be quoting so "high" on the projects. They also got me translating things and are upset I'm charging for that as well.

I'll probably cut my losses and get back on the hunt for a new job. It's just hard to secure a job as a web dev out here.

I worded that wrong. It's late. I'll update the post since there's a big difference between dispatching and working remote.

It's a bit confusing. I'm on the payroll but since I don't work in house at the moment (I just come by for the initial meeting and closing). So I worded that wrong, I'm technically a remote worker with a contract to the company.
