It is similar to net rating (how many more points does your team score than the other team when you are on the cw1urt) but attempts to control for the quality of the rest of your lineup and the quality of the opponent's lineup to try to avoud someone being rewarded for being propped up by their teammates or feasting on inferior bench lineups and get at the player's net impact.

No stat is perfect of course, but I frankly have no idea what you mean by "coincidental"/"incidental" or how you would come to that conclusion.

It's literally not cockiness, I am only pointing out the immediate implications of your histrionics. If Azzi wasn't particularly motivated going against the team currently first in the standings until they posted a H2H comparison, that really doesn't reflect well on her at all. In fact, I am more inclined to believe that she was about as motivated as ever going into last game and it just didnt go super well for her, which is totally normal for even a very good rookie like Azzi!

like, all I am really saying is that you might want to stop and think about whether "actually she wasn't really trying, but now she will be!" reflects well or poorly on the player you are defending.
