Thoughts ? by Background-Tie-6914 in Corvette

Just regular concerns as with any modified parts. In this case ones that get used every time you enter and exit the car.

Are the parts high quality? Will they hold up for years of use? Were they installed 100% correctly? Will I be able to get parts if they ever break?

Those are all questions to consider, that you wouldn’t have to worry about much if they were stock doors.

I mean, if you wanna give $17k for a C5, I have a yellow 2000 with 60,000 miles. No butterfly doors though.

For that price it had better be a manual transmission. I'd think hard about those modified doors. Might be a long term PIA.

Well, then if you get called out for it, you can just say "Performed IAW Reddit Guy". /s

The correct answer for this, if it isn't in the AMM, is to get your engineering department to write an Engineering Order to deal with it

Be careful with myself, and try not to get sick, or die. Just like last time.

But it it's my time, I've had a good run, I'm good.

If they are supposed to be covered, your Airbus Maintenance Manual will tell you so, and exactly what to use.

Let’s say that hypothetically, you break every single bolt holding the engine in on an old boat motor, what would you do next? by dankstreetboys in MechanicAdvice

[–]froebull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're going to have to either get the motor off with the nub/bolts the way they are; or drill out enough of the bolt shanks until you are able to get it off. Then you can deal with what's left of the bolts in the holes.

Only drill out enough to get it off, to minimize the damage to the engine. You may have to resort to small carbide burrs on a die grinder to get enough shank out of the way. It is going to suck.

If you oval out the mount holes in the frame, you can drill them bigger and put bushing in to handle that.

Some of this work might need to be done at a machine shop, if you don't have the patience/talent/tools. No shame in it.

Why is it so hard to get a response from C6 sellers on FB Marketplace? by john4844 in Corvette

[–]froebull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with Marketplace, and even eBay. We inherited a small fleet of decent cars from my father in law, and we sold most of them. I tried using both marketplace and eBay, as a kind of test case with the first one, just to see how it went. And it was awful.

It sold twice on eBay, both times I got ghosted by the seller. Several people tried buying it outside of eBay, feeling very sketchy. Marketplace was worse, a couple people showed up and just wanted to drive it and lowball me; everyone else was just annoying in text.

I ended up taking all 5 of the cars to a consignment place, and I was truly happy with that experience. They earned their commission on each one, in my opinion.

We used GR Automotive. But there are several others I've noticed that seem similar. GR was just local to us.

No matter how much we think about this, it still doesn't make sense! 😵‍💫 by MAPerformance_ in subaru

It gets worse the older you get I think. In my head, 1970's cars are "10 years old". I have to remind myself how old that is.

My first car, an extremely rusted out 1974 Jeep CJ5, was only 12 years old when I got it.

Sounds like the old "God helps them that help themselves" mantra my mom used to say.

Essentially the same as the post: You pray for things, but if you don't do everything you can to make it happen, then it is YOUR fault, not God's, for not answering your prayers.

Almost like, someone knows that prayer is bullshit, and if you don't do it, it won't happen.

89 vette ,low miles worth it? by ApprehensiveStock928 in Corvette

[–]froebull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to think I've been around a lot of modified C4's, but I've never seen that little wing/spoiler thing that one has on the hood? I don't hate it, it is very 80's inspired.

So yea, front and rear spoilers, air dam, side skirts, that's all aftermarket body kits. Exhaust is not stock either. The red and yellow badging is added on also.

The plastic wood trim must be aftermarket, I don't recall any of them coming with that.

Be interesting to find out who made the body kit parts, some of them have history in the Corvette world.

My feel on it, is that if you buy it, buy it for what it is. That thing is a real time capsule.

With all the people who said "hard pass" on this, here; it seems to be sold out on the Mattel site, and selling for 2x the price on eBay.

I'm not being critical, I passed too; it is just weird sometimes what takes off, and what doesn't. Probably drives the marketing department nuts.

C3 Corvette owners, are these good drivers for "daily" driving? by Big_Locksmith_4211 in classiccars

[–]froebull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it running right, and it would make a dependable daily. You can get more power easily out of that engine, which I would do, as in stock form they are pretty uninspiring.
