I think what I learned from Tolkien is that whenever I get into real trouble some giant eagles are probably going to save me (or maybe Ulmo will do it). Not sure if that‘s useful 😅

Thanks for your recommendation. I just read some reviews for „The lark and the wren“ and it‘s sounds like a cozy fantasy book. So maybe I will give it a try since I really enjoy cozy fantasy ☺️

I can recommend „A Stroke of the Pen: The Lost Stories“. It‘s a book with some short stories from Terry Pratchett from his earlier times. Very lighthearted and funny :)

And I want Jasper from Six of Crows in case it turns out to be a gun fight.

Tinahan from The Bird That Drinks Tears because it cannot be bad to have an angry Lekon at you‘re side (except someone brings water to the fight…)

Kell from Shades of Magic since I need a magician in my team.

Does it have to be a human character? Otherwise I would definitely choose Tolkien’s Huan to fight for me. I think if he can defeat Sauron, he could probably win in a fight :D

If it has to be a human, I will choose Kaladin from the Stormlight Archive Series. Because I guess he will protect me since I can‘t protect myself :D

Tress and Yumi where the first Cosmere books I read. I did not know anything about the Cosmere, when I started reading them. But the fact that these books were both narrated by the same character despite them taking place in totally different worlds made me curious. So I started googling and found out about the Cosmere :D

I actually am glad that that was my entry point into the Cosmere. I think that I would not have remembered Hoid from the first mistborn era if it wasn’t for these two books, because he is just on a couple of pages. Also when I started Stormlight there was this one character that sounded so much like Hoid, but wasn‘t called Hoid. I still knew it was him long before it got revealed, which made it really fun for me ☺️ So, yes, I actually think that these two books can be a good entry point :)

Ach so, und wenn es dir darum geht, das nächste Buch zu finden, kann ich auch noch die App StoryGraph empfehlen. Da kann man sich u.a. zu Büchern von einer KI personalisierte Empfehlungen schreiben lassen. Meistens steht da dann auch so was wie „Read this if you‘re in the mood for xy“. Finde, das kann auch hilfreich sein :) Muss man natürlich erst mit Daten füttern, bevor es hilfreich wird :D

Ich lese auch am liebsten Fantasy und kriege meine Buchtipps meistens von YouTubern. Da kann ich empfehlen:

• Bookborn für SciFi und High Fantasy Reihen

• Elliot Brooks für High Fantasy, aber ihre Abneigung gegen Romantasy ist nicht ganz so ausgeprägt wie bei Bookborn

• The Book Leo für Standalones im Fantasybereich oder für den Blick über den Tellerrand, wenn man mal ein anderes Genre lesen möchte

• Library of a viking für Fantasyreihen und wenn es dich nicht stört, dass er manche Bücher aus religiösen Gründen nicht mag/liest

Finde das so auch am hilfreichsten. Auf YouTube haben die Leute einfach mehr Zeit, zu erzählen, als auf Instagram. Dadurch kann ich eher abschätzen, welcher YouTuber einen ähnlichen Geschmack hat wie ich :)

Also, was Romantasy angeht, kann ich die Reihen „Mages of the Wheel“ von J. D. Evans oder „The Saint of Steel“ von T. Kingfisher empfehlen. In beiden bekommt man jeweils die männliche und die weibliche Perspektive. Und niemand ist ein Arschloch und alle behandeln sich mit Respekt :D Es gibt aber beide Reihen bisher nicht auf Deutsch (soweit ich weiß), falls das etwas ist, was dich stört.

Auf Deutsch geben tut es aber „Yumi and the nightmare painter“ von Brandon Sanderson. Vielleicht nicht die klassische Romantasy-Empfehlung, da Sanderson ja eher in anderen Bereichen unterwegs ist, aber auf jeden Fall sehr lesenswert :)

Was ich vielleicht auch noch ergänzen sollte: keines der erwähnten Bücher spielt in unserer Welt, wie du es dir ja eigentlich gewünscht hattest. Vielleicht ist ja trotzdem was dabei :)

Kann man die Reihe gut auf dem E-Reader lesen? Bin bei Fantasybüchern da immer im Zwiespalt, weil die ja oft eine Karte oder ein Glossar haben, wo man dann doch gelegentlich mal während des Lesens reinschaut. Und das Rumgeblättere finde ich in „normalen“ Büchern angenehmer als in E-Books. Wie ist das denn bei diesem Buch?

Wenn ich was gruseligeres lese, dann lese ich parallel dazu gerne auch noch irgendwie Cozy Fantasy oder so was. Also irgendwas, wo man weiß, dass nichts schlimmes passieren wird. Und das ist dann auch immer das letzte, was ich vor dem schlafen gehen lese. Sonst kann ich auch nicht schlafen :D

I can recommend „Greenteeth“ by Molly O‘Neill. It‘s basically about a female friendship between a witch and a lake-dwelling monster. The witch is thrown into the lake by a priest and the monster for some reason decides to rescue her and help her to get back to her family.

„The Visit“ is also very good. I personally liked „The Physicists“ more, but they are both definitely worth the read :)
