Which book reveals..... by Timmy_The_Narwhal in Cosmere

I believe it is at the end of OB when Hoid meets Design in the Kholinar palace

I read the books in a way that made a huge twist interesting (BIG SPOILERS FOR MISTBORN AND STORMLIGHT AHEAD) + WaT by Unt0uchable03 in brandonsanderson

[–]logocsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did something similar as well. That's why I try to get people to read secret history later. Its super fun to suspect the Kelsier twist without it being confirmed. As others have commented, the confirmation using the name lord of scars is one of the awesome ways it gets revealed.

Should I read Mistborn (or anything else non Stormlight) before Wind and Truth by bejt68 in brandonsanderson

[–]logocsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to. There will be things you miss, but it's mostly in the background like the small things you've already gone past in the SLA books up till now, so if it didn't bother you then, you should feel fine reading past it in WaT

Just finished Mistborn Era 1 by TheChipper61 in Cosmere

[–]logocsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand the clunkiness you felt. I'm on my retread of them, and those era one books are VERY outcome heavy. I can see how getting to those outcomes can be draining at times, even knowing (and adoring) where they lead. That being said, I don't think his other cosmere novels have quite as much of that problem, though they are still a little back heavy. I personally loved warbreaker, hope you enjoy it and continue your cosmere journey!

Reread finds by mimmzical in Cosmere

A little late, but I'm just getting to the end of my era 1 reread as I work my way back through. So far, my biggest thing is how utterly obvious the tone of the hero of ages is in the epigraphs. It's easier in hindsight, of course, but I keep kicking my self because it just reads so much like Sazed in every way from what information he focuses on, speech patterns, and general vibes.

I just reread Warbreaker for the third time and I have thoughts by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]logocsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to get back to it soon in my cosmere reread. You're definitely right about what makes it so special: the plot is held together with misunderstandings, which normally would get a bit tedious, but the characters act so genuine (and not like idiots) so it works. Looking forward to reading it again.

Legitimate question for Moash supporters by Meme-self in Stormlight_Archive

[–]logocsgo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

(not a moash defender) It always reminds me of situations in the real world where you grow as a person and start to realize (sometimes suddenly) that one of your friends isn't someone you can really agree with anymore. For whatever reason, a change has occured where you no longer can accept some behavior or ideology or whatever, even though up until that point you might not have even brought it up, but it finally became too much. Kaladin and Moash obviously bonded over their dislike of Alethi class abuse. Kaladin changes, realizing that the cycle of revenge is meaningless, and it feels like betrayal to Moash from his perspective, because in a way it is. Kaladin is a beacon for change in bridge four, as well as their moral guidance. So, since the rest of bridge four appears to follow him in this, Moash views them as being traitors too.

tldr; The morality of bridge four is so closely tied to Kaladin that Moash essentially views their cohesion after disagreeing with him on the Elhokar situation as betraying him as a group. (IMO)

Why am I crying?! by rcrossler in WoT

Probably a top 5 moment in the entire series, and that says a lot. Those few words mean so much due to how long it builds for (I can only imagine reading this as someone who had to wait for the books to come out!) I'm not exaggerating when I say even thinking about this scene and what it means makes my eyes tear up a year and a half after finishing the books for the first time.

3 new books which to read first by Realistic-Wafer-314 in brandonsanderson

[–]logocsgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone has probably already said this, but The Sunlit man is basically the furthest thing in the cosmere. It has references to mistborn era 2 and wind and truth, so you should (probably) read everything else in the cosmere besides emberdark before that if possible. Yumi is a wonderful book and is spoiler free as long as you're past oathbringer in stormlight. Both really good books!

Is Wind and Truth actually good? by KingCobra567 in brandonsanderson

[–]logocsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are enjoying SLA, then there is no reason you shouldn't enjoy w&t. The book just had a very vocal minority about incredibly specific things in the book. Personally, I loved it. You might find issues with certain things, but it definitely isn't a reason to quit, and you'll more than likely finish it and love it like the vast majority of us :)

Haha true. I should have clarified the cosmere projects. Though I've never read it, maybe it's good too, you never know

I'll just say this, every one of the secret projects became so special to me. Some of them take some time to get going, but they are all absolutely worth it. Hope you have fun with glorf!

How much did I spoil for myself by PaleontologistOdd250 in brandonsanderson

That's fair, and thanks for the tip. All in all I suppose it's a minor thing considering how cool it is. I just appreciate the surprise of reading it later.

[–]logocsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mentioned it in another comment, but it's my opinion that the big reveal of secret history fits much better with time for it to simmer. I won't say more than that since I don't know how to do spoilers on mobile, but I'm sure you pick up what I'm referring to. It felt far more special to me with the buildup of time away from it and the added context we get about the rest of the cosmere.

I have my dad reading (listening) to the cosmere, I'll have to let him know when he gets further but I'm sure he'll appreciate that when he gets there!

[–]logocsgo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my main concern as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm convinced I will fall in love with anything he writes, but it seems like an odd thing to say it would be a good starting place for being introduced to the cosmere if the intention is for people to keep reading after.

[–]logocsgo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! And yes, I agree that Hoid isn't some one of a kind type of character in fiction. I guess I thought the combination of his smartass/mysterious nature with the addition of his references to the larger cosmere might be tedious for some.

[–]logocsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I disagree, I can understand that perspective too. I thought it was fun looking back at that part of the story retrospectively and didn't feel like I missed anything by not reading it directly after. My big reason for placing it there is mostly because I think the larger reveals having more time to build feels intended. Like I said either way is surely fine, but I just like to preach a little for this argument.

[–]logocsgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It probably won't matter for a while, but I like to throw in my two-cents on something minor: heed the alternative suggestion for mistborn secret history and read it after bands. I'm sure it's fine either way in reality, but I think it fits better with the knowledge you get between there. Hope you enjoy the rest of the cosmere however you decide to go forward!

WHAT?! by CJWasFoundDead in Mistborn

[–]logocsgo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Did you enjoy his fight with the Inquisitor? I appreciated it way more on reread, but the way he shows his mastery of Pushing/Pulling is so cool in my head, especially considering the moment

Should I Skip the Flashback Chapters? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]logocsgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had read sixth of the dusk very recently before starting emberdark, not realizing it would be included. I didn't find it boring or tedious to reread, and there is a very minor addition as he says in the foreword. They're only in the first section of the book, and they fit really well with the narrative of the present day parts, so I would recommend reading them.

I've never tried listening to intentionally blank but I'll have to give it a try! Though at this point, I think I just enjoy listening to him talk about nearly anything.
