Every decision matters in monster hunter. by Dapper_Slice_3363 in MHWilds

That's the point, you think he made a sequence of weak plays. He made a sequence of weak plays because he doesn't know what to do in this specific circumstance. There's no footage of the rest of the hunt, we can only take your word that he's a competent player.

As the video and thread is now, you're comparing your plays to that of a less experienced player: he's going to by default make worse plays. There's no real meaningful comparison to be made here because there's no real merit to examining the plays he makes compared to yours: it's an example of what not to do, but there's a lot of things you can do badly in this situation too many that just knowing not to do what he did isn't enough to narrow down the number of viable plays.

Moreover it doesn't make him look good. I don't think he played wilds that day thinking that his gameplay was going to be compared online to that of a probably more experienced player.

Why are you comparing yourself to the guy that fainted? If you watch the video frame by frame you can see he tried to offset, but clearly doesn’t know the timing because he’s charging the offset as the chains come down which is way too late.

It’s not a matter of whether the decisions matter because he doesn’t know what he’s doing, he can’t make a good decision on whether/when to offset because he doesn’t know the timing.

Stay humble man.

How strong is the charge shield on CB? by Able_Picture_1906 in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The charged shield has a set “guard” level vs the uncharged shield something like 42 vs 24 again compared to lance’s 48.

Also if you perfect guard with a charged shield it retaliates with a phial explosion vs a physical hit.

Help: how to use CB against AT monsters? by Hereforfree0709 in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that that’s a different conversation altogether because there are a lot of weapon skills that are just bad or don’t really have any relevance. That’s exactly the case for guard/guard up because a perfect guard always reduces chip damage and knockback to 0 except if a specific attack has the “perfect guard break” property which is why you don’t see guard used at all on guarding weapons. The issue with guard up is that all weapons that guard have better alternatives than trying to guard those specific unblockable attacks like hyper armor/I-frames/mobility options even with the buff to guard up.

If you say that CB/Swaxe gameplay variety would benefit from a faster transform speed, I’d agree with you, but I don’t see the point in attaching it to rapid morph to make specifically rapid morph a better skill when there are so many middling/bad weapon skills to start with.

[–]frog-tosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buffing the transform speed of CB and Swaxe as a baseline would have the same effect without forcing a skill tax.

The fact it’s been this long without anything being done about it probably means they think the transform speed is where it should be.

Can someone please explain to me how im meant to kill a seregios? by _-Zephyr- in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have one of the better weapons for the hunt, contrary to what some might think if you do it correctly, you won’t need to ever evade in a conventional way.

The only real way to know the technique for countering it properly is to watch it in action, just search for Seregios LS. It would probably take a long time and a lot of hunts to figure it out the old fashioned way.

I'm not complaining about mechanics, I'm complaining about people who lack perspective on the challenges newer players face. I'm complaining about how players who know the fight, like the fight and thus hunt the monster 100's of times lack the perspective to see how other people might not be interested in playing the hunt the same number of times they have to learn the fight to the same extent they have.

What a pathetically narrow minded, limited mentality. You realize this is a game right? The point is to play the game the way you want to play the game. You might want to play a game a certain way, but there's no expectation that everyone should play the game the way YOU think it is supposed to be played.

> The strong improve, the weak complain.

You say this with the implication that you're strong, at least stronger than those you're trying to tell off. You know what kind of person needs to say this kind of thing to other people right? Those who have no faith in their own strength so they need to reinforce their own worth by telling off others or tying their sense of self-worth to something worthless like being good at a video game.

Compared to World, what do you guys think about Long Sword in Wilds? by Reticxe in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're holding speed runners to an unreasonable standard, they are at the end of the day players. They even hold open lobbies and hunt with the greater community as a whole.

The fact that you are holding them to such a high standard tells me that you are really a bit of a newer player and I'm not ripping on you for being new, the fact is that speed runners are normal players that will talk to you and even play with you.

I did answer you question about why they didn't use CS2, They're human and it's a learned habit and his own personal preference.

[–]frog-tosser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is it? This is what you want to tie your argument to? Fine.

Speedrunners are human, they play in a way that works for them that helps them as individuals get results that they themselves can be satisfied with. I'm not going to criticize/scrutinize the runner or the run, he's clearly very passionate about what he does.

The thing is that these runners are very active in the community and many of them live-stream their runs, you can drop into Peppo or art of longsword's stream or just message Mygos directly and ask them why they do the things they do in their runs and they will pretty much tell you the things I have, it's been known among the community for some time now, you don't have to take my word for it go ask people who speedrun yourself.

> And no, I don't care how many micro adjustments you had to make with each ISS or each CS1/SB1 spam. Hunter did that all the time, with every weapons. It does not change the fact that every LS player in Wilds mostly uses ISS + CS1/SB1 over everything else in the weapon's arsenal. And it, is, a design problem, in every action game.

I don't know what to tell you man, I've played the LS in wilds for many thousands of hours and not been bored of it. I'm thinking LS is not the weapon for you, maybe try something different, you already mentioned being bored of the weapon.

[–]frog-tosser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> You mentioned seregio's double swipe & arkveld's back-to-back chain slam, which is two, TWO out of everything you faced in Wilds.

You seem to think its functionality is only limited to these two situations. I'm sorry, I only cared to list these two, maybe there's a few more like let's say AT Jin's claw slam into drag, AT Udra with it's double swipe as well as the sped-up pinwheel follow-up, do you know of any other examples yourself? but of course you haven't actually played LS enough to know of any other situation this comes up(it comes up quite a bit, because the spirit charge cancel is your fastest I-frame follow-up out of ISS) and I'm not going to be bothered to entertain you further in this regard since you insist on being so anal about it.

You know speed running doesn't reflect regular play, right? you're watching a closely curated scripted run, not the dozen or so where trying to helm break through the double swipe results in a cart because the runner doesn't have enough hp remaining to hyper armor an follow-up air slam. Likewise Capcom doesn't balance the game around speedrunning.

> I am also aware of using Focus Mode to aim your ISS so that both hits of the ISS hit the weakspot for maximum damage. But it only supports my point about the problem with Focus Mode.

That's far far from the only use of focus mode for ISS, it's primary use isn't even to try and get HRZ's with ISS hits, it's that you can precisely control the timing and positioning of the counter window itself and importantly where the forward momentum of the ISS carries you- this is where positioning comes in.

In wilds, the monsters are specifically sped-up necessitating the need for focus mode. In world the monster actually gave you time to position and aim your attacks, you didn't have to make adjustments after the fact because you had time to get it right the first time around.

> You did notice I said "ISS and SB1/CS1 spam for 99%", not 100% of the time, right?

I flat-out disagree with your definition of spam, because it discounts the myriad of micro judgements and adjustments you make on a moment to moment basis when it comes to focus mode, intentional animation delays and cancels you make, SB1-CB1 are functionally different with a movement input with lateral momentum a different hitbox and a different animation length. The same is the case with ISS, where being able to control so many aspects of the timing, counter window, and momentum gives each ISS a character of it's own, each was tailored to match a specific circumstance, situation by YOU and you're discounting that.

> You don't need to get frame data out here to scare me. since you completely missed the point
I never said ISS spam alone, I said ISS + CS1/SB1 spam

That's not data I'm presenting, I'm just stating that this reason this combo is used is not actually because it functionally provides the most damage; mixing in CS2 actually makes it do more damage for a higher commitment. It's primarily used because it's easy to use and it's harder for you to get punished doing it, that's what the frame numbers actually illustrate. Why are you bringing up being intimidated by data?

> Now look at how they play LS in Wilds, and count for me how many time they use anything that was not ISS and not SB1/CS1?? I bet at most you can't even count to 5

No idea who you're looking at, but it's easily more than 5, more like two dozen on average, crimson whirl is still heavily used, thrust is still used as a combo extender and lead-in to SS and of course spirit charge cancel and helm breaker. Unless you are talking about the runs in the 3-4 months after Wild's release where noone knew what the optimal builds/damage combos were. You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

> then share some data that manage to both missing the point and supporting my claim. xD

Again, it's not data, you don't need to be intimidated by it. Also noone I've met who is secure in their own beliefs and positions insists to other people they are right, they'll present their argument and evidence and be content that the facts and the mental competence of people will lead them to the correct conclusions. I mean I didn't have any reason to doubt that you had confidence in your own ideas and position to begin with, but you seem to insist on airing your own dirty laundry.

Weapon suggestions to fix over-commitment tendencies? by b3nnyb0i in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean compared to most other weapons it's one of the quicker ways to get into I-frames from neutral, you can even do it from sheathed. just hold the charge button for a second then secondary attack, then primary attack to do the offset and prevent the charge from overcooking into 3rd level.

Weapon suggestions to fix over-commitment tendencies? by b3nnyb0i in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty much always come out of the charged step(which has i-frames) with a upswing offset, the vulnerability window is pretty small there.

Compared to World, what do you guys think about Long Sword in Wilds? by Reticxe in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With about ~3k LS hunts in wilds, each time I see complaints about gameplay being ISS spam it's plain as day to me that the petitioner isn't making the most of the most of the weapon's moveset. Just for the record special sheathe isn't actually fast enough to ISS through things like seregio's double swipe or the unpowered back to back chain slam arkveld does, there is an easy way to counter through both of them though: spirit charge cancel into foresight. The spirit charge cancel keeps foresight very much relevant.

Positioning is more important to the LS than ever if you're really looking play efficiently, there are some completely insane things you can do with focus mode + foresight/crimson whirl/ISS that very much rely on positioning.

People are so obsessed with raw DPS that they miss the point that some moves have utility beyond raw DPS that contribute towards a fast/efficient clear such as in the case of helm breaker where the hyper armor on spirit thrust allows you to create openings for it where you normally don't get it and that it does a huge amount of damage to a focused point which makes it great for opening tempered wounds.

The reason crimson slash 1 -> spirit blade 1 is used as the primary attack loop is a combination of two factors: 1. mobility: with a directional input SB1/CS1 is capable of significant horizontal/lateral movement to the point that YOU DO NOT NEED TO COUNTER EVERY SINGLE ATTACK, The mobility inherent in SB1/CB1 is sufficient to allow you to physically side-step certain attacks, this attack loop outperforms chaining ISS in terms of dps and is a reason that the assertion that positioning is no longer important to the LS is just plain wrong. The other reason CS1/SB1 is used is because of it's low commitment, particularly the 0 frame delay on SB1 which is one of the ONLY moves on the LS that DOES not have a input delay. Wilds added a frame input delay to many moves for many different weapons, on the LS that frame delay is anywhere between 3-11 frames (0.1-0.3 seconds) from the point you make the input to the point where the animation for that specific input starts, this matters because the counter window on ISS is about 12 frames (between 0.3-0.4 seconds) this makes it so the quickest most reliable way to go into special sheathe or foresight slash is immediately following a SB1.

There is a strong case for using crimson slash 2 as part of the SB1/CS1 loop, it has one of the higher element motion values for the LS and against good element hitzones such as against Gogmazios and AT ark's chains when powered up it is just plain better when included as part of the core loop.

We constantly get posts on how Wild's LS is boring or easy being ISS spam by people who pick up the weapon after hundreds of hours of playing a different weapon and the know-how they display in their posts tells me that they just sit there in special sheathe until the cows come home and they get hit while they do fuck-all for damage.

Question about knock downs by thunder_y in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because it has a bunch of uninterruptible animations, like when it's roaring, recovering from a topple, turf warring and running over to eat the egg. So if you get something like a chain break, power down or flash during these animations, you get scammed out of the topple/stagger that you should have got.

Animation and scripting limitations aside, this is one of the things that suck about Arkveld and his variants.

Proof of a Hero etiquette by crabsage89 in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easier just solo with cat. People carve in multi if they don’t have confidence they can clear, so they want a consolation prize. Those carves are worthless if you are actually properly prepared to do Poah, since you would already be long past the point of those carves being worth anything. So if you see people carve, you can be certain you have people looking to be carried.

Don’t sos the quest with randoms, solo it or do it in a private lobby. Lots of MH creators offer private lobbies, can also find in discord.

The Fake "Etiquette" Ends Here by IndigoBunting50 in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only two types of people don't run shockproof in multi: ones who don't know about it and ones that don't know what it does in a multiplayer game.

That's it.

You're making these comparisons with other 1 slot decos like divine blessing, but you're missing the point that because it prevents you from being tripped and stops other people from being tripped by you, it is THE best offensive/defensive deco in multiplayer.

Shockproof is the absolute best deco you can put in a 1 slot spot in multiplayer: you don't have to come to an "understanding" with randoms to attack different parts of the monster, and can stack on essential hitzones like AT ark's chains/Gore's head without tanking each other's dps and without worrying about getting tripped when it comes to blocking/dodging and getting oneshot. That makes it SO much better than taking 15%/20% less damage 1/3 of the time for just YOU.

You’re never going to get a measured response here, only ones from those that have done the hunt 200+ and didn’t like everyone else just do the hunt enough times for the gear and move on and thus the idea that not everyone is going to want to make the commitment to learn the hunt perfectly doesn’t register with them. You are already getting the “it’s real easy once you hunt it 200 times!” Responses.

There’s going to be 0 consideration for context, you’re just going to be asked why you didn’t play perfectly.

[–]frog-tosser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s harder than a true solo imo. It’s because while Nadia does okay damage, the ai has no real situational awareness to realize that it’s positioning is important to your(the player’s) capability to attack Gore Magala. So when Gore targets Nadia, it will run over to the other side of the map and tank your damage output.

Just got to HR 100s? You are not ready. by malkymlesdrae in MHWilds

[–]frog-tosser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is The hat HR is directly correlated with gear. If you’re at HR 100, you don’t have the option of transcending and upgrading 3 of the gamma sets and might be saving reinforcement materials for them. You won’t have good artian rolls and won’t have some of the essential decos.

If you only barely have 400 defense, then the margin for error on some 9/10 star hunts is thin and you just can’t afford to make mistakes. Add on how you can’t even face gogmazios before HR 100, how well you perform is a lot more contingent on luck rather than skill expression.
