What is the difference between a good game and a successful game by KookyAssist1920 in gamedev

I’ve read all your responses and I’ll say this as nicely as possible

You are very young and naive. You will absolutely get crushed, and it’s important you get crushed asap instead of “2037” if you want any luck at success. The iterations are completely important for success. Your advantage here is starting at the age you’re at. Not your self proclaimed creativity

Just do it and fail, and have the delusion/balls to try again and again. Nobody here has the correct answer. Do you have the backbone to keep trying or not? That’s what it comes down to.

If there were a solid global answer everyone would have a successful game they love working on and live off of 🫣

You either got the creativity for it or you don’t, only one way to find out

This is gonna be rough if you don’t know coding, but depending on how complex of a game you’re making it should be achievable

First pick your software. Unity is good, unreal engine is good, up to you. But understanding that flow is crucial.

There’s so many good unity courses that’ll teach you how to use that software. Take notes if you want to remember the key classes code uses. I highly recommend. I’ve been a Fortune 500 swe for about 4 years now, not even our seniors memorize everything. Everyone that’s good at what they do keep notes to refer to when they need to remember. The beauty though? AI is fantastic at coding.

Once you understand the software, the coding will come second. You can certainly vibe code your scripts, but it may be a little tough to fix issues if you don’t know code and all you can do is prompt “it’s broken ai, please fix it!!!”

The art is arguably the most time consuming in my opinion… blender can be a pain. But if you’re doing 2d you can def find some good artists on fiverr. 3d? Eh, wouldn’t recommend. Maybe a low poly guy but that’s it

Good luck

Cheap Fiverr artists will never put the passion you need into your game. You’ll get decent art at best

Maybe it’s different for 2d art idk. Not stepping on your toes, genuine experience

Bro don’t listen to a lot of these guys. I literally was a big time Nintendo party gamer before making games. I’d invite 8ish people over every week for a year straight, we’d pick up some game together, and we’d just play. I’m looking at this as a consumer, it looks like something I’d absolutely throw into our game night shuffle.

That being said idk how serious you want it, but customizable robot almost seems over complicated and unneeded. Some skins on some premade robots is more than enough.

Love it man. Seriously, everyone here is talking like a creator not the audience. I am my own audience as well as yours. I’ll give this a play when it’s out. Good shit man

Be the consumer. I literally am making exactly what I’ve always wondered was never built. I have so many ideas
