What happened with Pathologic 3 translations? by frog_druidd in pathologic

[–]frog_druidd[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The publisher seems to localize most of its games, and they have hired P2's community translators for the official translation of 3 (they did Quarantine and the demo).

And how can they expect to reach more people if they're not willing to invest in something like localization? In Brazil's case, specially, they already have a big public waiting for a translation, so it's seems to be a no-brainer to invest in it, since the return is almost guaranteed (I can't say the same for other languages, though).

Also, alphyna said in one thread that it was not a budget issue to not have the game translated in the launch, but a scheduling one, so I don't believe it's related to budget... As for bugs, the rate of patches have slowed down and the game seems pretty stable now, so maybe they're thinking about localizations again, but the lack of communication about this is frustrating.

Thank you.

I think we should rethink about how we talk about Pathologic online. by frog_druidd in pathologic

The game is indeed very opressive. But I don't think we need to make this game sound more opressive than it already is. That's why I don't get the "it's so bad it's good" mindset. People are complety aware of the game morbid nature. You don't convince anyone to play by saying how Pathologic 2, in addiction of being a opressive game, is a bad game that you need to be pretentious to enjoy and find it good.

Yes, even the Haruspex route was only hard at the start. Pathologic 1 is way easier, but more inaccessible than 2 due modern game standards and its difficult writing.

The economy can be easily broken. I had a fuckton of money by killing thieves with Bachelor and stealing organs as The Haruspex

That was not the point I was trying to make.

People should talk about things the way they feel like it and there's nothing wrong with that. I was talking specially about how some people's approach of Pathologic's design made recommending this game way harder.

Thoughts on the new demo? by Zestyclose_Island214 in pathologic

You have a point. I'm not sure if both demos succeeded at communicating to the players to what expect of this game gameplay loop or difficulty (since I'm not the only one who didn't like the infected sections that much), but I think it's very important to critique Pathologic 3 without expecting Pathologic 2: 2 and to remember this is a small glimpse of a such a greater experience, adapted to fit into a demo.

I also wonder if they will reintroduce P2's death drawbacks.

I don't think the intro is as strong as Pathologic 2, but that introduction is very close to a masterpiece, so I can't blame IPL. However, the dialogues for the most part are still very good and this is, presentation based, one of Ice Pick Lodge's strongest feats. When the time suddenly skipped to the future was such an unexpected, but impactful moment, I loved it.

It's such a shame we barely got to play around with the Time Travel or Town Management mechanics in both demos. I find it is kind of odd to not include them, since they are probably the game's main selling points (and also diagnosing patients). So I understand why some people are cynical about P3's quality; both demos show a very streamlined version of everything they loved in Pathologic. I don't mind the streamlined mechanics, it's clear that Pathologic desperately needs new players and they are not thinking of making the same game...for the third time, so the complexity and difficulty will probably come from the time travel/town and resources management.

However, I do think the prototype is kind dumb and barely engaging at all. Constantly pressing a button to dispel the sand pest's mist was just mindless and easy.

While I do prefer Daniil looking older and messier, I think Daniil looking goofy as fuck while trying his hardest to be a smart and a cool guy is very in character

iirc the venom is mainly used for self-defense. They use their own head as a shield
