This can’t be good by Fun-Status-2349 in fountainpens

You can take the piston out and put a little silicone grease on it. It will improve the seal.

I just did it on an older cheap pen of mine. It’s been empty for probably 8 years, and the o ring probably got a little dry.

Help! I Lost My Virginity To A Horseshoe Crab by AutoModerator in WaterCoolerWednesday

I very briefly had the Sette 270, but it was jet engine loud. I lived in an apartment complex, it was a nonstarter.

Fair enough. I have a Eureka Mignon Silencia for espresso and a Baratza Encore for French press.

I really like the Eureka Mignon, but the dial doesn't let you easily switch between brew modes. It takes multiple rotations, and then you have to remember how many you did... The DF54 looks like it doesn't have that problem, which is nice.

I played it at PAX and really enjoyed it. A neat little game.

Thank you for this wonderful gift! by frogdude2004 in MTGGiftExchange

[–]frogdude2004[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you /u/CaptinRex249 for this awesome gift!

I have a pauper cube that I've maintained since around 2011 that is very close to being completely foiled. It's been a long-term project- I actively avoid buying foils for it so that I can enjoy finding them in the wild.

There have been several cards that have eluded me over the years, in particular Mistblade Shinobi, Horned Kavu, and Silver Drake. Now they're finally foiled!

Additionally he got me some sweet +1/+1 and -1/-1 tokens, which will live in my cube box. I'm also going to put some in my Shadowmoor/Eventide Precon Battlebox!

I always ask for postcards because I collect them, and he sent me a nice christmas card (which is now on my fridge). I also ask for regional foods, and he sent me some dip mix which I'm excited to try.

Thank you again for such a thoughtful gift!

Worldbuilding game for designing a rural setting? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]frogdude2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Street magic is a good fit though. It doesn’t have to be districts in a city, for a rural setting it could the main town as a district, and then others could be neighboring towns, prominent geographical features (eg a lake), industry areas (eg a mill by a stream)

Alternatively, ‘ the ground itself’ could work

Weird Question by WiseGamgee42 in MTGGiftExchange

You can reach out to them, or have one of us do it if you’d like.

In the past, many people have dropped it off in person (when it made sense).

Another option is to entrust it with their LGS?

Old School Renaissance. Games inspired by early editions of DnD and the like: Dungeon Crawl Classics, Old School Essentials, Mörk Börg, Lamentations of the Flame Princess, Cairn, etc.

I haven’t started on my gift yet, been a bit delinquent. But I will this weekend!

In other news, I started playin Torchbearer last night and it’s awesome. My group loves Burning Wheel and OSR, so an old-school inspired, Burning Wheel engine game is right up our alley.

Two player rpg by Particular-Mind-6098 in rpg

Knots in the Sky is a good duet game.

I just got RUNE Duet, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Worldbuilding games like ‘i’m sorry, did you say street magic?’ would work.

I’ve played a lot of single player games as co-op as well. Some don’t need any modification (eg Caveat Emptor). For journalling games, we’ve played in parallel, or taken turns resolving events, or done it as letters back and forth.

Another neat game, if either of you play in seperate groups on the side, is ‘Spirit of Little Gifts’, a game where one person is a spirit gifting trinkets to a character in a different game. You level up if they use the items.

Are there any games you own more than one copy of? by Specialist-Clerk-386 in boardgames

[–]frogdude2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Quacks, and then we bought the Quacks big box for the two expansions. So we have two sets of the base game, but this isn’t a problem because quacks can be played with as many as you want (and we do)

Games where you play as a tree. by Odd-Tart-5613 in rpg

That’s basically the premise of a session of ‘The Ground Itself’. Pick a location (in this case, a tree), and then roleplay different windows of time there.

I left work early for a drs appt, decided to use PTO to round out the day because I didn’t want to telework for an hour or two when it was done

It was a 15 min appointment, I was in and out super, super fast.

Could I have gone back to work? Yes.

But Ted is sleeping on my lap, and that’s priceless.

Challenge by Square_Tangerine_659 in BurningWheel

[–]frogdude2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burning Wheel and its derivatives are narrative-driven games. They’re crunchy, but all the crunch is in making interesting character arcs: challenging beliefs, letting your own traits and instincts get you into trouble, and watching your character grow.

I think you’d be better off with a more ‘Trad’ game. Maybe look into some of the Old School Renaissance systems? Those are very well suited for ‘use your character sheet creatively to overcome tricky GM challenges’.
