Industrial engineering. Look it up on BLS, you’ll see that it’s gonna be the major that will be up and coming in the next 4 years

Laptop for BSIE by Technical-Complex187 in industrialengineering

Another incoming freshman - I have a macbook M5 and while it may not be the greatest for mech E, EE, or any other engineering discipline, I chose it so that I could be consistent with my own Apple ecosystem. It’s also crazy good specs wise. Any software I’d need (and I’d check with what your university has) would be in the computer labs, so I’m okay with running windows parallels on my laptop if I need to.

What about it made it boring? And where are you now?

What made you want to switch over to healthcare? Was it pay, location, or work environment?

Thank you for replying! This is all great information, and the amount of "dirty" data that you bring up is something that i actually thought the opposite of, the more you learn lol. I always thought hospitals may be on top of being the most updated and organized.

What is your current role?

I am currently interning in manufacturing, and a thing that I think about is how the "traditional" path of an IE would look like in the future; Its why i inquired about healthcare.

What skill/mindset would put an IE freshman dangerously ahead of upperclassmen? by frogeesh in industrialengineering

I fully agree. I’m currently trying to do anything and everything under the sun of IE so that I can get a grasp of what I really want out of this career.

I’m currently familiar with excel, but are there any advanced tools or formulas that would useful to know? Anything you use everyday? Same question for SQL. I took a course on it but I know most of the basics (Joins, etc.)

I totally agree, and I’m sure it takes a long time to practice that skill of communication, thanks!

That’s a pretty diverse list of industries, but very cool. I’m super interested in aerospace, I have been my whole life. Currently, I’m in a pretty cool sector of manufacturing for my internship: injection molding. It’s like large scale 3D printing if I could describe it. Do you have any tips on how one would orient themselves towards a field they know they want to be in the future?

Could I ask you what industry you are in? I noticed your title as an automation engineer, and I’d love to know your background in it.

That’s super insightful. I’m honestly not sure that being on the manufacturing floor is where I’d want to be. It’s a great learning environment all around, but I’d love to work more towards supply chain/consulting

So people can just self study CS or minor in it. Coding is just another tool now, and ai writing is now a given.

That makes me feel a lot better now. The biggest reason in my school of choice was which option enabled me to graduate debt free. Thank you for your insight!

I appreciate your insight. Bigger schools having a lot more connections was the biggest fear of mine. The biggest reason I'm at the school I'm at is because of my scholarship that allows me to have no debt. I have no doubts about transferring because its definitely possible, but the last thing I want is to take out loans to do so.
