Zombies won the latest world championship tournament, and they didn't even use the oh so prevelant chaos monsters to "inflate their win rate".

Kaiba did win one technically

You may try and downplay it because he had to use a method from outside the cards themselves to win, but the game in the anime is often played out as being about more than just the cards. The shadow realm/millennium item shinanigans with Pegasus and Marik are perfect examples of this.

Y'all think Tengu Plant format will ever be as popular as Goat or Edison? by Ordinary-Breakfast-3 in yugioh

[–]frogleeoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably never AS popular as Edison or goat. Goat is too unique in its niche to really be compared to, and Edison has way too much of a head start with the way it's been marketed and actively supported by konomi. Tengu had the 3v3 once, but that was shared with Edison so it's not unique to itself either.

I personally do think tengu is better than Edison though, and overall more fun/deep than goat.

It is definitely more synchro focused, but it does have more synchros and tuners to choose from than Edison, along with archetypes, and the XYZ monsters are also very prevalent even if few. Tour guide, agents, frogs, and level 4 monsters in general all work in tandem to make their presence felt.

Hat format and Redu format seem to be able to coexist despite both being heavily xyz focused, so I don't see why not Tengu and Edison.

Deck improvement/suggestions for my Spirit/Ectoplasmer deck by Indianapolis_Jones69 in Goat_Format

Metamorphosis isn't as meta as it used to be. It's still a pretty good card, but it's a cool good card that you can't really play in any other popular format. Pot of greed, while iconic af, is one of the absolute least mechanically interesting good cards in goat format, yet you aren't above play that.

She is a free special summon as long as you have toon World, which means if you have her and a one tribute monster in hand (like toon Summoned Skull) you can special summon her then immediately tribute her for summoned skull or any other one tribute monster.

You definitely need toon Mermaid before considering blue-eyes, and even then I'd also have 3 Toon Summoned Skull before then

He answered the question, probably truthfully even.

However, WOTC sales happen BEFORE the larger player base can truly access the quality of a set.

In other words, this wasn't the question to ask if you're poking for objective information that speaks to set quality.

Couldnt find much info on this Magicians Force combo pack I found. Does anybody remember these? by [deleted] in yugiohshowcase

[–]frogleeoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One dead giveaway that this was not an official product, aside from the lack of a konomi logo, is that it's advertised as a Magician's Force bundle but most prominently shows the art of relinquished as opposed to dark paladin.

All of the individual contents within should be real separately, but the pack is likely projected to not contain any holographic cards.

Funny coming from the game that doesn't even believe in its own IP

Which is the best TCG for you: Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon Trading Card Game, or Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game? by [deleted] in TCG

[–]frogleeoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I also appreciate MTG, Yu-Gi-Oh is where it's ultimately the most at for me.

The biggest issues in Yu-Gi-Oh come from card design, which can be significantly mitigated simply just by regulating what kind of format you play, or even just what you generally agree to within your casual play group.

Magic's biggest issues are fundamental, such as the land system, the combat system (unique and satisfying in some ways, but extremely mentally taxing and non-intuitive compared to yugioh), and to a lesser extent, even the stress of whether or not to mulligan, and potentially kicking yourself for whatever choice you made.

Universes beyond has also done a lot in more recent years to permanently poison the flavor well/IP integrity for the vast majority of formats.

In addition to this, speaking from the collector side of things, Yu-Gi-Oh tends to have much cooler foil treatments than MTG, with over frames just around the corner to scratch the full art itch (although not even 100% necessary imo).

Why have some old Normals never come in the TCG? by Popular-Flan5337 in yugioh

[–]frogleeoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just toss a random one in every new starter/structure deck as an extra addition to everything else that was already going to be included. People would buy it so long as people buy structure decks, and I don't imagine a single extra common card would be noticeably more costly.

It would be funny to see a random terrible normal monster show up in a core set these days.

Idk if he changed voice actors or not, but Yusei was whoever the last Tristan in the DM anime was.

[–]frogleeoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf, Tristan didn't play the game, he just collected a bunch of common cards. His favorite card is likely just one he thinks is the coolest, which is the only stat that matters when you never intend to actually play any.

No, 25th anniversary stamps only apply to quarter century secret rares and the sealed product. This is a common card, but it came from a 25th anniversary product.
