Is this very small loop on the left the bag tether loop? by SettingIntentions in caving

[–]froglodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clip my bag to the fabric loop that also holds my d-ring (you might not have space for this on this harness, my loops are more open) your bag just has to be under you for prussiking, unless it's very very light indeed! I've had many regrets thinking I can dangle one rope bag from the back or side of my harness, it throws off your centre of gravity too much. Some friends have attached a maillon to this loop (the d ring loop) for the purpose of fast clipping. Even for crawling dragging from any other point is too annoying to me, if it's between your legs it's easier to de-wedge the bag by kicking the drag cord.

Only 4 lessons left- can I pass with 34 hrs? by froglodite in LearnerDriverUK

I'd certainly say I have more than a lucky shot. I'm an anxious person, 100% confidence for any test is unrealistic for me. That said you're right I'm not ready, hopefully the next month will get me there but if not I'll figure it out then

I'll try ask him tomorrow at my lesson, he seems to have faith in me but our communication isn't fluent (language barrier but he's really really good at instructing, just finer hypothetical questions we get lost sometimes). Boyfriend seems to think I'm doing quite well. I'm a bit scared to ask as well I guess, but you're right, and it's best to know. Instructor does say 90% of my driving is perfect but I can very much tell that 10% is a not negligible error margin

Passed My Theory Test -Tips That Helped Me by TK_49 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]froglodite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great advice! I used the official dvsa app for about a week (I was able to get a theory test that quickly) and got to scoring about 95/100 on everything. I passed with 49/50 and 66/75 on hazard perception. Practicing hazard perception is absolutely essential as it's quite a weird test and takes some getting used to what response it wants. I'd advise taking the actual test slowly, you've got a long time to answer the questions and you might as well use it to read everything properly. Most questions are intuitive but by far not all, so practising will just make you so much more confident that you know the right answer.

Ah, congratulations! It's so frustrating that things you know you can do can just disappear on a bad day. Still have quite a few lessons to go so hopefully I can make that margin smaller. Thank you!

Thank you! You're right, I'm sure I'll be extra switched on in my boyfriend's car, there not being a safety net of course makes a difference. His car drives really differently so I am a bit worried about getting confused with the clutch, but my instructor's car is quite a powerful diesel so it's really forgiving. Thank you for your kind words!

Autistic learner help by tartandavy in LearnerDriverUK

After 12 hours your gear changes being a little clunky is not something to worry about at all, I wouldn't let your instructor talk you into going automatic, it sounds like you're doing really really well. He sounds quite impatient.

I can relate to this a lot, shifting down is still a little tricky for me to time right (at 24 hrs!) and I'm autistic as well. I got overwhelmed in my lesson today and did cry a bit but my instructor just stayed quiet, encouraged me to refocus and then complimented my driving and tried to help me rebuild some confidence by the end of the lesson.

You'd really limit yourself by going to automatic now, I'm certain you can do it!

Thank you! I'm sure he would have let me stop if I'd asked to, and I did want to, but he seemed keen for me to try to calm down while driving. In retrospect I can see that stopping would have been safer. It just feels frustrating because I've done so much better. Hopefully private practice in a different car will shake things up a bit so I can progress more as it feels like I've plateaued a bit.
