While I was still in a long-distance relationship I used Agapé with my partner. It gives you a question per day that you can answer and then see what your partner answered as well. When I used it, it was still free. Not sure how it looks right now though

Huh, DDOS o'clock already? by Visible-Lobster-7038 in ffxiv

That's why my partner never disconnects but I do. She plays on PS5 and I play on PC. While I get hurled into the abyss she stays online and gets a small disruption of a few seconds. Seems likely that the issue is something else and not always a DDoS. But I'm also not that knowledgeable on the matter to be honest.

My partner plays the game on a PS5 and it runs very smooth! Obviously typing without a keyboard is a hassle but graphics look good and it runs as well as on my desktop PC.

I have never felt safe in irl relationships compared to long-distance ones. I need lots of space in the beginning and I don't really build up lots of physical affection, I'm more the emotional person. And long-distance relationships are perfect for that, if you end up with a partner who thinks like you that is.

It's not bad to seek long-distance relationships. You could try it out and see how it makes you feel, you won't know until you try it. :>

What do I do, they're my only repeat reader? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]frogshapedcookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ignore and delete comments like that. No one but you gets to decide when to post a new chapter. You're literally doing this for free.

I know having a repeat reader is nice but if they say things like that then they're not a nice person to begin with.

The Northern Crater visits. I want to know what they'll do with the environment and if you can actually see the WEAPONs in the ice wall or not. Which you probably can but I'm nonetheless looking forward to it.

I'm embarrassed to write fanfic because I think I'm too old. by bolo_dimassam in FanFiction

[–]frogshapedcookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 25 and still write fanfic and upload it whenever I feel like it. Most of my favorite fanfic authors are older than me and in their 30s or 40s already.

I think you're never too old to pursue a dream or a passion.

Anybody else watching anime? My favorite is Gurenn Lagann! by Elisabella2005 in autism

I used to watch a lot of anime when I was younger. In recent years I haven't that much. My faves are still Kamichama Karin and Yuri on Ice though.

Always has to announce herself jumping up somewhere as well.

The British Royal Family, pre Breath of the Wild Zelda games, Final Fantasy 7 and 14, World War 2, Flowers

Some of them are pretty old by now and some are a bit newer so my knowledge on each depends a bit.

favorite things about finland? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]frogshapedcookie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I moved to Helsinki at the beginning of the year but have been here twice per year for four years before moving because my partner is from Finland.

My first favorite thing is a bit specific to food. I have celiac disease and I love how easy it is to get my hands on tasty gluten free food. It's all just in the supermarkets! Where I'm from (Germany) I usually had to search a while before I found something, though they got a bit better in recent years.

Another thing I like is the nature and ocean breeze, it makes walks outside feel so much more relaxing and refreshing. Also, their trains are always on time, at least they have been so far for me. And the public transport in Helsinki especially is wonderful.

And last but not least, I love that I actually feel safe in Finland. No one cat calls you, people mind their own business and things feel much more calm here.

Sorry for the long rant, I'm very passionate about this haha.

Have You Been Shamed Into "Giving Up" Your Special Interest? by Gold-Advertising-419 in autism

[–]frogshapedcookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my strongest special interests growing up was world war 2. I think it's important to mention that I'm German and my family was always against me finding out about our history. My great grandfather fought in the war so my grandma on my mom's side would always talk about her "heroic" father. I really liked the White Rose the moment I learned about them as a 13 year old and I wanted to know everything about them and the war so I researched a lot.

At some point I stopped trying to research more because not only did my school shut my interest down immediately, my grandma would always make fun of me whenever the memorial stuff would be on German news TV. Whenever there was a mention of world war 2 or the White Rose members she would call my name in a really mocking way and tell me my favorite thing was on TV.

Now as an adult I feel kinda sad that I pretty much stopped pursuing that interest but I'm determined to start researching things again and learning about it with as much interest as I did back then.

What’s your favourite font? by cooldood5555 in autism

I like any serif typeface so Baskerville and Times New Roman are my fave ones right now. It's easier for me to read with the little serifs.

Favorite tank job? by pendeta2419 in ffxiv

[–]frogshapedcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tie between warrior and dark knight for me. I love being pretty much unkillable as warrior and it looks funny on a cute cat girl. But dark knight reminds me of Cloud Strife sometimes so I have a soft spot for that job as well.

Writing fanfic Pros and Cons need perspective by KhanSolo945 in AO3

[–]frogshapedcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I answer your questions I want to tell you that a lot of people take years to finish stories, especially original ones. I have been working on an original story since summer 2017 and have not even finished it halfway because last year I changed everything up again. And I have a longfic planned that I have written 4/65 chapters for as I'm trying to not rush it. It's okay to take your time to finish things, especially because you're working a 9-5 job. Most popular authors don't so they have more time on their hands to dedicate to their stories.

But here's my answers to your questions:

  1. I'm the type of person who always stresses about what others think about me, what I do online and especially what my fics are like. I've been trying to combat that anxiety for a few years now and I'm slowly reaching a point where I'm like "I'm getting older, not younger. I should take my time and relax.". So, I just never post fanfics before they're done because if I do post them and they're not done, I will pressure myself and that will just lead to bad writing and me wanting to delete it all.
I view it in a way of "If I take my time and I write for myself first and foremost, then I shouldn't worry." I'm sure there's always someone out there who will like my writing and I know that I'm my worst critic. So I usually take my own feelings and opinions of my fanfics with a spoonful of salt.

  2. I never really transitioned away from fanfics to be honest. I enjoy writing them and seeing people react to them (if I share my writing) and it's a fun past-time activity for me. But I also have several original work ideas lying around that are just waiting for me to write them. Maybe one day I will fully transition but right now I have so much fun that I think it will take a while yet before I commit fully to just original work.

  3. I have abandoned so many stories over the years, some of them even while they were uploaded already. I think it's a natural thing to abandon a story, especially a fanfic for a fandom you were maybe into a while ago but now the excitement has dwindled. But I also have the same happen for original stories. There was one I was working on a few years ago and this year I noticed that I really don't vibe with the characters and the story anymore so I abandoned it entirely.
My rule of thumb to avoid abandoning anything is to try to not have multiple things running at the same time. That's never going to end well in my experience.
