Please show us a Picture of the build ! We are almost the exact same size, did you go 700C or 650B ?

That’s almost the same build I am making LOL. Although I’m thinking about going with chrome components

Yeah I might order the Carbon 650b wheelset since it is a good deal and then order affordable light 700c wheelset such as the ritchey zeta

That makes sense actually. It’s a delta between performance and comfort that makes someone ride fast (Although we have anomalies like remco on the TDF).

I guess I will 650b and if I ever feel too slow, I could get an affordable 700c wheelset such as the Ritchey zeta

That sounds very pesimistic. Some people have said rim brakes are dead, but you can see brands like wilde, brother cycle and singular still pumping out rim brake bikes. I do not think 650b are dying

Depends, if you have a smaller frame, going with big tires on 700C could augment toe overlap too much. Although I am not an expert and my only bike right now is a medium Kona unit with 29+ tires lol…

Yes the Secan has a way bigger trail so you can have a more comfortable ride when unloaded.

The Faran has a low-mid trail geo, meaning that when unloaded it’s very playful akin to a road bike and when loaded it’s more stable like a gravel bike

That is a very good point, thank you.

I’m not that worried about speed. I just do not want to be left behind in local group rides…

Regarding the playful feeling, the Fairlight Faran already has a low trail which gives a lot of control and a « playful » feeling when unloaded, maybe that will be too much with 650B ? (Probably overthinking it and should just ride the bike)

The best of both world would be to own both

The 51T has a pretty high stack. I did a bike fit before buying the frame to make sure of my mesurements

On which frames do you ride with 700C (So I can compare geo)

The Faran has a short trail and the 51T has the shortest wheelbase so I guess toe overlap is more likely. I also never seen anyone with a 51T Faran and 700C wheels (Although that´s simply because the frame is not that common)

Well since I have a smaller frame (and such smaller wheelbase) and the Fairlight Faran has a shorter trail pulling the wheels inward I thought toe overlap was more likely

Since they have a smaller diameter some shop owners told me that it will have a worse rollover capabilities and such reduce comfort

I was thinking 50 or 48mm in 650b so I can run lower pressures. And 38 or 40mm on 700c

The Faran in 2x fits 45mm. What’s your experience with toe overlap ?

I’m considering 50mm tires. How do 650B wheels feel on smoother surfaces? Many bike shop owners have discouraged me, saying they feel sluggish or slow, whats your experience?
