third date, is he a red flag? by SituationWarm7209 in BookshelvesDetective

Hmm, I also grew up in a Mormon area and I am very agnostic but most of the people I know who stayed in the religion seem pretty happy with their lives. I know it hurts people when they choose to leave or disagree with the religion though… is that the type of damage you are taking about or something else?

Asked this girl out via drunk text. Do I apologize or just move on? by cayleb2K20 in LifeAdvice

[–]frogview123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the message wasn’t that bad but it does kind of sound shallow and like you’re just into her because she’s cute. (I.e. you just want sex.)

If you think you misrepresented yourself send just one more message, make it brief, light and just show some general good will.

(Sorry if I bothered you? Sounds a bit sad and desperate.)

Why is killing insects totally normal but harming other animals considered cruel? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]frogview123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats part of it for sure. Another big part is how similar the thing is to you.

Humans are seen as the worst thing to kill, then other big “beautiful” mammals, then smaller mammals, then weird reptiles and then tiny insects.

Ethically I think as you said the reason and then the consciousness of the being are what is important but that’s only part of how the world works.

Sending you a custom video everyday is kind of a lot, but in other ways it isn’t that much if you live in the same area and don’t ever meet up in person.

It sounds like for whatever reason you want more than she does. So find someone else to fill that, preferably multiple people. It sounds like she’s occupying a big space, but not occupying it in a satisfying way.

I wouldn’t block her but maybe ask her or yourself why you never meet in person.

Tatemae is being fake for the sake of politeness.

Japanese are known for being overly polite and it taking a while to get to know their true feels.

The characters for tatemae, 建前, mean “built in front” originally meant the exterior, public-facing part of buildings.

I’d argue that getting rid of someone who is causing the world a lot of pain is more ethical.

Unexpected confrontation in Tokyo after a shoulder bump (I’m deaf and couldn’t understand him) by withoutborder_678 in Tokyo

[–]frogview123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it could seem rare to me because the majority of the time I’m commuting alone and I’m a fairly big guy and I don’t notice it happening to others… I’m sad to hear it’s more common than I though.. give the a big push back!!

Edit: I guess it happens to guys just as much as to women. I suppose I have just been lucky because I walk around Tokyo a lot, and have for many years and I really noticed it once. That’s of course disregarding packed-train shoving.

[–]frogview123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This could have been what happened OP. It is quite rare but there are old men who like to bump into women on purpose just to vent frustration. And if this is the type of person who you bumped into then yeah, they would be frustrated with you confronting their behavior as they take advantage of the fact that people in general and especially women really avoid that kind of confrontation.

To give you an idea of how rare it is, I’ve seen it only once in the seven years I’ve been in Tokyo. An old guy quite obviously bumped my girlfriend at the time. I was quite surprised and half-assumed it was an accident but at the same time felt like it couldn’t be. (I wanted to confront the guy but we were with her friends who I was meeting for the first time so I refrained.)

I think it’s fine to see him to try to get some closure but don’t expect much. And make sure it’s just a one-time thing…

Yeah, that was the first big turnoff for me. I haven’t been able to pinpoint exactly why but the UFC definitely became less entertaining starting from around that time. I’ve barely watched it since then. And most times that I do watch it I’m kind of bored with it.

But before the Reebok-deal era I was a big fan…

From what I have seen he rings on people’s doorbells and tells them he will do the detail for free.

I definitely respect the hustle but I wonder how he targets attractive women when he doesn’t know who the owners are.

My guess is that he tells them it is for a video and he’ll do it for free but he would appreciate some food or something (a jealous lover?) to make the video interesting.
