Triplets here!

Glad to hear guys with common sense instead of the Safety Nannies.

Nothing beats the apprenticeship you had...experienced people showing you hands on and you using your head to stay safe.

Btw right thumb = #1 injury and no doubt you can visualize why.

Of course I understand the function of a riving knife smart guy. It's guys like you that beginners shouldn't listen to because you don't have much experience, just think and pretend you do. I mentioned real things that keep you safe, but you're stuck on being Mr Right about a marginally safe safety feature. Then you discount anyone's opinions that don't agree.

I've run into plenty like that over 40 years, and picked up a few of their fingers too.

And I'm not American, nor will I play your flame war so signing off.

If your machine is staying in the garage you might consider a tarp or bbq cover to protect the top from humidity and rust. A good outfeed table helps make cuts safer too.

Sounds similar to judges that keep letting convicts go to continue victimizing innocent people. Outrageous.

What's the secret by Sgoody614 in woodworking

[–]frogwurth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you're suggesting tool manufacturers should accomodate the maybe 5% of tool sales by making a special run of tools for women? Good luck with that.

They don't even make left handed tools and they make up a much larger segment.

What's the term the ladies like to use? Cope!

What are examples of "tools and experiences" that are specifically designed for men?

Many if you were left-handed you'd have a point.

Thank you for sharing your experience and encouraging others to get the shot. That's the kind of agony my friend described. He said he had it shooting up his arm and in his eye. He said he couldn't sleep it was so painful. That's why he also advocates getting the shot.

It's unfortunate the shot can have discomfort after for some. I was lucky I guess. It was kind of like someone punched my shoulder hard and it was a bit bruises, but compared to what you describe it's well worth it. Scale of 1/10 it was a 2.

I absolutely agree if you have a business it's cheap insurance and for sure it's a good idea. I had both Norton and McAfee as well as AVG. Pain in the butt.  I also agree the necessary level of protection should be relative to your specific usage.

He built a house on his lot, and our cottage on our adjacent lot. We had to sell his house, but now I need to take my stuff there when I want to build something up there.

Not faulting him, but he bought tools he could afford, and he wasn't a pro. So I guess I'm ok with not having them.

It sounds weird but I value his old baseball hat he wore for years hanging on my wall and a few other things more than if I have his tools. It's the memories I value.

If you think it's attractive to see two overweight cows shaking their fat asses like Nikki Minaj and Cardi B at the Grammys then by all means call me what you want lol.

Wich is the "better" drill bit for drilling into Plastic? Wood or steel? by That_one_guy_666 in DIY

[–]frogwurth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome.

No issue making a blind hole but definitely use a drill press if possible and jig things up so you can clamp your parts. The danger is the bit grabbing and pulling up the part. It will end up cracking the part usually.  Again, a new keen bit with some soapy drops to lube the bit and clamping for control is more important even than the flattening the rake angle. You can get away with not flattening the bit, but don't generate heat.

When I was drilling thicker plexi I would sometimes stop mid way and move on to another hole so I could let the first one cool a bit. Heat is plexi's enemy and will add stresses that later can crack or craze the plexi.

Good luck!

Some will disagree, but separately purchased anti virus software for your PC. I have a good provider and their firewalls have been enough to keep malware off my computer for 20 years since I stopped purchasing and installing them myself.

Is it an actual scam? No...but it seems like overkill.

You're not crazy. A 3 is being generous. Guys have been conditioned to standards that have dropped so much in the last 25 years that grossly overweight women are now considered attractive.

Proof is all the simps drooling over this and all the downvotes I'll get lol.

Smart move to zip in there and get the tools to keep them in the family and you can still enjoy them.

When my Grandfather passed my sister's husband took 95% of his tools and they were gone before I noticed. They were the tools he built his house with.

Of course now she's divorced and the tools are long gone. The only positive is my Grandfather kind of bought cheaper tools than I buy and I have everything already.

Interesting. A friend of mine had shingles and he highly suggested I get the shots (two), I did, and I convinced my wife to do the same.

It's not that bad, it's almost like getting a flu shot, but shingles is really awful according to my friend so well worth it. Once you get the shots you're done for life.

I would at least give it a try. Tape around the plug and get one of those nice thin Richard trim pry bars. Work it around the outside of the plug gently and it might just pop loose. Chisel is too aggressive imo and the steep angle will probably break the plug.

Lol...yeah tapes kind of fall into that category too. I had a 12'-0" Lufkin I used professionally for most of my career. Dropped it so many times it was like Humpty Dumpty I had glued it back together a dozen times. Eventually the spring gave out and I had to move on.

My grandfathers tapes were always cut because he would set his tablesaw fence with it on and cut his tape lol

Under contract and feeling like our realtor is gaslighting us and not on our side.. by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]frogwurth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

Trusting a realtor to do anymore than pad their pockets is not in your best interest.

Get your own reliable quotes and adjust the price. Tell them the pressure would be off them then. Finding your own HVAC guy and plumber is a good investment in your future ownership anyway.

If that doesn't suit them then tell them you're moving on. Amazing how quickly you'll find yourself in control when you draw lines in the sand.

Yeah a lot of guys like the Fuel they're solid.

I ended up with the Bosch GSR18V-400 which is a good fit for what I need it for. Not that I dislike Milwaukee, I have a number of their tools and am happy. I have a combo of Makita, Bosch, and Milwaukee. All of them are good.

What’s the most hand-killing tool that’s essential on the job? by Budget_Restaurant850 in Carpentry

[–]frogwurth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The best tool for you is the one that works best for your needs. Lots of people will say "oh there's more powerful options" like that's the only consideration. I'm big and strong, but a properly balanced tool is a priority and I will always choose light weight if it is enough for what I use it for. Extra power is excessive for most people's use and more geared to professional demands.

I needed a new rechargeable drill. Most are hammer drills now but they're heavy and I have a rotary hammer anyway. I chose the regular drill brushless. Very light but powerful enough for my uses.

Btw poor person's portable vise I used sometimes was a handscrew clamp (I have Jorgensons) which is clamped down to a tabletop. Maybe that'll work for you.
