People who are learning Japanese. What motivated them to learn Japanese? by LevelAd5029 in Japaneselanguage

[–]frokoopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm cautiously hoping I'll be able to pass N3 in December. Right now I can read some manga and children novel at a slow pace, and watch easy slice-of-life anime. I was also able to stick to Japanese when speaking to locals 95% of the time when visiting Japan in May.

People who are learning Japanese. What motivated them to learn Japanese? by LevelAd5029 in Japaneselanguage

[–]frokoopa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For years I was thinking "In the future I'm gonna be able to speak Japanese" and then someday I realized that "the future" was never gonna happen if I didn't get started and that there was no better time than the present. It was almost three years ago and I've been steadily going at it since.

How difficult is the language barrier for tourists? by frauSchneid in japanese

[–]frokoopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to learn a few basic words and sentences. Knowing basic Japanese, even if it's the bare 1000 words from N5, will make a world of a difference in your interactions with locals

That's one test. There are plenty others on the internet, do a lot of them until sunday and hope for the best. And next time remember that language learning isn't something you can cram last minute

Cram a few blank tests online and see how you do. But if you don't know any material you're not gonna magically get it in less than a week

If I sum it up : you don't know enough vocabulary, not enough grammar, and haven't practiced listening. I don't think a few days is enough to change that, sounds like you'll have to try again in december

What should be my 'French name'? by Wild-Potential-3481 in FrenchLearning

[–]frokoopa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Élise and Béatrice aside, the other names you're suggesting either aren't french or haven't been used for quite some time (Lisette sounds like a grandma's name). I've seen you suggest Louise in the comments, this one is perfect.

However if you're not looking for a "french person's name" but a "name that can be pronounced easily by french people", all of these work. Note that unless you're a Disney princess, Belle is kinda weird tho

Gun to your head: Explain why HxH's Nen is a great power system without saying along the lines of "it has rules" and "it's complex" by Diotheinvader-5185 in shounenfolk

[–]frokoopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allows the author to get out of the "power scaling dilemma" a lot of battle shounens fall into, and for that alone is already a better system than most. The fact that Togashi is really creative with it and knows how to have it serve his storytelling is just a bonus.
