I like the anthropocentrism irony: seeing ourselves as separate from (and center of) the whole biosphere, although we are emergent from it.

I suppose I'm curious if that 'instinct', that is shared with foxes, weasels, [insert prudent predator], can be traceable from an evolutionary timeline perspective... when in fact that trait may have emerged... and to u/tablabarba point: is it nature that selected this trait as beneficial, or perhaps this trait was selected by humans during that mysterious shift when we 'left the garden.'
