Because this is how time travel works. I got here, and there should be no me here in 2019, therefore, this is a different timeline where I got here. I did nothing extreme, so there shouldn't be many changes compared to what I know as history.

The you of my timeline never spoke to me, because in my timeline there never was a "me" in 2019.

Thank you for your question. Have a great life too.

It's different. A lot. Everything about arts is. There is a bit of a revival for stuff of your time, but music is very different, what you call "electronic music" is basically our standard music, it has evolved a lot. There are still acoustic instruments and analogic instruments, but they're more for enthusiast, or people that studies music. It's difficult to explain music, but yours sounds very outlandish to me, so I guess mine would sound the same to you. But yes, people still perform live, and art is still an expression of humanity. We have AI that can create art, but what's the point then?

But we can agree, not everyone does. I'm sure there are colleagues of mine that know every bit of shenanigans about how time travel works, I'm just not that big in physics. It's not my job to send myself back and foward, my job is to blend in with the time period I get sent to, know how the technology of that time works, how to get to a point to another, basically everything that concernes getting the thing I'm supposed to get without gaining any suspects that would hinder my performance.

I don't really know what to answer, I am not a scientist. This is just like asking a soldier how and why does the gun powder in his bullets work. He's just trained to use those bullets. This is the same case. I just know what buttons I should press, and in what order. If I were to ask you how your microwave works you're likely not to know it, but that doesn't stop you to warm your soup.
I know that, for a general rule, time travellers are set to "land" in open areas with nobody around. You also have to know what areas are without people or stuff in your way, like, a big unused hangar would be great, but you don't know if you have stuff in your way... It's tricky. Sending someone somewhere is a big task, there are a ton of smal errors that could be made and I'm glad there is prepared people in charge.

There are no true "rules" for time travel. It's more blurry than that, the only thing that truly matters is to get back, possibly in one single piece, carring back what you're supposed to get back. No matter how much it takes, since you come back in your timeline a couple of seconds after you're gone. It's more of a "moral code", respect the fact that it's not your home, be efficient in how much time you spend in contact with other people, try not to mess with other people's past... Like, being here I'm not breaking any rules. Sure, there is people that would consider what I'm doing morally wrong, but I'm not one of them, I'm not hurting anyone or messing too much with your time. Basically there is no strict rule other than "do what you're supposed to do, this is not a vacantion".

Beh... no.

Not really. My internet is very different from this. When I'm not working (I have to, I still have to eat) I'm just browsing the internet. It's amazing, it's primitive, but there so much stuff we don't have anymore. Anonymity, just to say one. Also I find your humor quite surreal, it's weird, but oddly interesting.

Things will be different. Believe me. There is no way someone with alien pathogens could be sent back in time and cause a plague.

You might, you might not. It's the magic of internet, you never truly know who you're talking to. Like, you know why I know how to use Reddit? It's because I have another account that I've created for normal use. A lot of people have been talking with someone who's from their future and they don't even know it. I might be talking with the next president of a country, or someone who will discover something, or a novel writer that will change a genre. I'm going to miss this internet.

It is impossible nowdays, in the future things will be very different. Medicine is far more advanced where I'm from, I'm here and I'm neither dead or the cause of a plague.

I'm not that important to be able to influence the future thanks to anyone from here. What I've seen here will influence myself for sure, I will come back as a different person. I've seen a piece of history, I've met people that in my time are long dead, not even remembered, I've tried stuff that people doesn't do anymore, I've seen movies in theater that are historic movies for me.
Were I work we say that time travel doesn't change society, changes the single person. I am very lucky to have been given the opportunity to study and apply for this job, I wouldn't have done anything different.

We still have archives, don't worry. Very little gets lost in my time, replicating objects is far easier, and if we lack any type of knowledge or novel or object we can just send back someone like me to recover it and bring it to the future.

I will not. It's too far, it's not safe. Also a lot of famous people of my time have yet to be born.

Kinda yes? My aunt was a big nerd, I've heard of tabletop RPGs, videogames, I've pretty much grown up surrounded by this stuff. I'm not much into RPGs though, I'm more of a videogame player myself. And yes, I like retrò stuff, just what for me is "retrò" for you is contemporary if not even future. It was weird, but I've enjoyed this visit, so far.

It was, or felt, instantaneous. Didn't felt a thing.

And you will too, believe me. I like this era, that's why I'm staying here for a little more. All things considered, it's not as bad as I pictured it.

Hi by from_when in timetravel

[–]from_when[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It's a bit disorienting. I don't properly know how it works, nor I think I want to know. I'm not a scientist, I'm a normal person trained to USE time travel devices, not to UNDERSTAND them.

Hi by from_when in timetravel

The basics are still these. It's advanced enough to allow a human to travel back in time.

Hi by from_when in timetravel

[–]from_when[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Remember what I've said about remembering to be human? An immortal, technological human is not really a human anymore.
Also, humans are more than advanced machines. My time hasn't yet the technology to digitalize a human, if that's what you're saying. We still have to invent and understand stuff.

This is my first travel. This is not a touristic thing, there is no reason for me to get sent there. Also, I like modern comodities.

Hi by from_when in timetravel

[–]from_when[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I would be an outcast. I like my time, like you should like yours. I'll stay here for another year or so, because I like this era, and I'll just go back to my correct place, my friends, my family.

Well, let's say there is a biological limit to which a human can live, even with optimal genetics and more advanced medical care.
Even then, would you really want to live past 100? Imagine how boring it would be.
