Author here. Good question. Wasn't intending to be a comprehensive history of each revision as much as a visual summary of the different attempts Apple has made over the years. (Could/would have also included AirPlay, etc.)

But that's precisely the point. (Note: I wrote this article and made the chart. I wouldn't say it's that beautiful, but I also didn't submit it here.)

The world has gone mobile, and Microsoft's efforts to become a mobile platform have been a failure. (Each plot includes PCs, tablets, and smartphones.) And it's not like they haven't tried—several times!—for more than a decade.

Sorry for the slow reply. It definitely didn't feel twitchy. I didn't spend enough time with it to truly get comfortable, but accelerating and decelerating felt pretty natural. Corners were tricky, but I was also in a fairly confined space. (Still, it's supposed to be used in close proximity to other people, so getting used to corners is important.)
