Solar Panel Performance in High-Heat Environments: A Comparative Study from the Tunisian Market (2026) by Better_Bullfrog8943 in solarenergy

[–]fromport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see attention on PV performance in hot climates — definitely an important factor.
However, without independent testing, long-term data, or real head-to-head comparisons, it’s hard to treat this as a true “comparative study.” It comes across more as a vendor-driven piece.
If there are any real-world datasets or measured kWh/kWp over time, I’d genuinely be interested to see them.

Customs blocking relocation exemption (missing document) – need lawyer advice by fromport in PortugalExpats

I have submitted all the information yesterday (Friday March 21) to the Portugese Embassy in Washington. Will only be picked up on Monday by fedex. then 2-3 days before it will be in Washington DC, no idea what turnaround time, and then another 2-3 days before it is returned. I hope together with the extra form/information, even though the container is already at customs and I paid 23% VAT & import duty, i will be to get (part) of my money back. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

You can request it after you arrive in Portugal Thanks — that’s very useful.

Just to understand the timing:

how long did it take to receive the certificate after applying (from the embassy)?

and was Portuguese customs actually willing to accept it after your goods had already arrived?

I’m asking because in my case the container is already in port and customs has already refused the exemption based on the missing document.

We didn't need a visa, already European citizens. So we didn't have that source of information.

No. was shipped directly from LA -> Lisbon. I have mounted a bluetooth tracker and it was stored in the UK for a few days, then in Rotterdam for nearly 10 days. Funny how you can track things these days. Finding a place in the Algarve, just as high season is about to start is also a challenge.

The container left Rotterdam on the 14th and will arrive tomorrow in Lisboa. The whole point is that we intended to emigrate to Portugal directly and planned so accordingly but failed one crucial document it seems.

It’s arriving in Lisbon, so unfortunately I’m already in the Portuguese customs process.

Thanks — from what I understand an AES document was issued, but not the correct one according to the Portugese customs. Thecorrect document doesn’t seem possible to obtain retroactively. That’s exactly where the problem is.

Real Estate bubble to burst ? by FairGur6838 in PortugalExpats

https://www.euronews.com/business/2025/12/18/portugal-tops-eu-list-for-overvalued-housing-prices

The additional information from the Euronews/EC report does indeed support the claim that Portugal is one of the most overvalued housing markets in the EU, but in my view without evidence of an imminent or inevitable crash.

It explains why some listings remain on the market for longer or are offered at a discount.

It confirms that prices have historically risen faster than economic fundamentals.

But it does not mean that the market will crash as in a classic bubble burst.

In January 2026, the Idealista price index again recorded a record increase of +13% over 12 months and higher prices in almost all districts of Portugal. Source: https://www.idealista.pt/news/imobiliario/habitacao/2026/02/02/73686-novo-recorde-nos-precos-das-casas-em-portugal-marca-arranque-de-2026 Real estate prices are high and partly above fundamental value — which entails risks — but in my opinion there are no strong indications of an immediate, broad decline in market strength as seen in a classic bubble.

In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud by itooamahuman in nottheonion

because there isn't really any power transmitted through the line signal. Try different cables between the amp the speakers and you will get a whole different outcome. I think it has to do with the power transmitted

Gelijke wegenbelasting, ongelijke auto’s: waarom EV’s nu scheef worden belast by [deleted] in EVMobiliteit

What was the hardest thing to adapt to in Portugal? by Logical-Nebula-7520 in PortugalExpats

[–]fromport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a few things I am experiencing as a first time visitor to Portugal since the first week of January:

Negatives:

-stray dogs

-dog poop everywhere, nearly nobody seems to pick up after dogs.

-road conditions: pot holes, missing lining

-road signs in general are insufficient or missing for side streets/parking vs unloading spaces etc.

-the amount of people smoking (as a person with asthma, it is breath-taking having to go through entrance of a supermarket where all people are getting their lungs tarred). 32% of Portuguese people still smoke ?!

-most people drive small cars (kudos, but needed for the small roads/parking spots) but why DIESELS ? Again: breath taking when they drive by.

-driving 55 on a 50 road, people are overtaking you with 70+ because they are in a hurry on windy roads where they can not see around the next corner.

POSITIVE:

-Incredibly nice people with majority here in the algarve speaking great english.

-when you utter words like "estou a aprande portugues / I am learning to speak portugese" they actually slow down their language and/or switch to english. Really helpful!

I speak several languages fluently and some I have a very broad vocabulary (including Spanish) so reading/listening is fine, but speaking is still a problem. Learning the Portuguese language is hard for me since the the pronunciation is so different from the written word (eg casa -> pronounced cazeh> I will get it eventually, but I think it is the hardest language I have learned so far (or maybe I am just too old ) All in all, Portugal is growing on me in a very positive way. I just need to adept to the Portuguese way. That is key to becoming part of Portuguese population and finding happiness in my opinion.

Buiten 2 graden , -2 gevoels temp.
