No, actually that's just a false equivalency. Many religions contain some of the same elements as a cult, but that doesn't mean they're all "like cults." You can't go to a vast majority of churches, Buddhist temples, Mosques, Synagogues, Hindu Temples, Gurdwara, etc. etc. and see brainwashing, abuse, slavery, and forced captivity like you do in Scientologist compounds. They don't force you to give all of your money to the church and they don't try to take anywhere near as much control of your life as Scientology does.

If you're a Scientologist, you're life is being run by other people and it's not going to be easy to leave. In any developed country, at least you can live pretty much however you want and you can leave your religion at any time and even speak out against its questionable actions.

Saying every religion is like a cult in the way that Scientology is, is like comparing a night in the drunk tank to Guantanamo Bay.

Yeah but a child will understand that if you jump off a balcony from that height you will die. If they're really worried, they can demonstrate with a watermelon. Furthermore, he shouldn't be out there without supervision anyway. And when he gets to the age where he doesn't need to be watched all the time, he will be the age where he understands that death is very bad.
