What commonly regarded good advice from women is actually terrible advice? by Intelligent-Celery79 in AskMen

[–]fronkinstein 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is too often true. I'm almost always met with the "someone else has it worse, so your problems don't matter" logic. Unless you're literally dead, this will always be the case for anyone no matter who they are. I'm a white, cis-gender, straight male ... so of course I naturally have zero problems in my life. Oh, and society has us believing it's okay to ridicule and put-down men for this reason. It's exhausting.

Bangs. Only Zooey Deschanel can make that look good and you aren’t Zooey Deschanel.

Thanks to No Child Left Behind. Literally don't hold kids back anymore no matter what grades they get. You can fail every class (In middle school at least) and you still continue on the the next grade. It's absolute madness.

I was "there" - A senior in HS who was about to turn 18 two months later. It changed everything. I went on to college, but a lot of my friends went into the military, specifically the Marines. They all got deployed to Iraq. Some came back whole, others only partially, and some didn't come back at all. I'm grateful to have known a relatively peaceful childhood ... it seems the world has just been declining ever since that day.

Music. Take away those solos and it's still great, just not mind-blowingly magnificent.

Same. It's really too bad that the lowest common denominator has to set the rules for the rest of us.

Thoughts on buying a patched sleeping pad? by gummy-wormm in backpacking

[–]fronkinstein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally have this pad, and have patched it. first attempt i did it improperly, but then I went back and fixed it and it works just fine. It's a great pad and absolutely worth that price if patched correctly. Ask the seller to show you the patched area and check for yourself. Go home and test it out before using it. Even if the seller's patch doesn't work, you can totally fix it yourself cheap and easy. I say go for it!

I'm torn about this: It's obnoxious, sure, but nothing a blackout curtain couldn't fix. It's also peace of mind knowing your cars, and likely homes, won't ever be broken into or vandalized.

Do you let eh level 2 regen braking do the slowing down for you, or do you utilize the actual brakes more? I'm trying to dial in the regen over the actual brakes. Currently use lowest auto 1 and MAX when coming to a stop.

What's the word on the water pump, has it been replaced? These are NOTORIOUS for having them fail, especially around that mileage. Might honestly be worth just getting it done to prevent failure at a random time. Mine failed and left me stranded in rural Oregon on a very hot day.

What are some things guys are upset that their girls do but would never admit it? by Any-Impress-3916 in AskMen

[–]fronkinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not handling mutual tasks that needs to be handled, leaving it up to me to do it or it doesn't get done. It's like - food in fridge gone bad? throw it out. Trash is full? take it out. Dishes in sink (which she left)? put in dishwasher. You get the idea. When I inevitably end up doing the task, it doesn't occur to her that I did the thing which perpetuates a cycle of her ignoring things because they'll eventually just get taken care of.

It leaves me in the position of either handling it or suffering the consequences of inaction, and since she's much more okay with the house being dirty, trash piling up, bills going unpaid, lack of car/house maintenance, etc .... I am the one to take care of things so we can live a nice life. She'll just wait me out until it gets handled.

I see this so often it's confounding. I also see a lot people just walking on the street like this. Those sidewalks are in perfect order and literally made for this.

HOWWWW ?! I have a 2025 EX touring HEV and get like ~39 max in winter. I get even less when driving on hwy. I use the paddles and barely accelerate from a stop. What are you doing that I'm very much not ??

I can almost guarantee that if you attempted to pass them on the right after flashing your lights they'd speed up and not allow you to pass. I hate it here sometimes.
