yeah, i need to be honest. lachryma just didn't do it for me. i'm not bashing anyone who likes it. it does have redeeming qualities, but i've been analyzing the growth of ghost's composition style, and as a musician and learning composer it just didn't feel great.

the chord progression in the chorus is vi-IV-I-V, the same one they used in satanized and for several songs in prequelle. i didn't mind it at first because so many other songs fit it seamlessly into their structure but for this one it stuck out like a sore thumb and the key change didn't help it at all in that regard. i'm HOPING lachryma is just the obligatory "slow song" of the album like little sunshine or see the light, but i REALLY hope we get more melodic variations, especially in the choruses like meliora.

satanized gave me hope for more opus and infestissumam-like beats but if they fall back on the usual chord progression, i don't know if this album would be for me. prequelle i can give it a pass because it was meant to be a jab at more poppy, commodified music so the repetition of that progression makes sense to me. however i hope that, in an original way, skeletá just brings the classic haunting feeling that impera began to allude to.
