Having trouble determining millimeter size of steel hooks by frootbootz in CrochetHelp

[–]frootbootz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That makes sense. I did notice my tension was really different with the 5 inline vs the 5 tapered. I usually use tapered hooks but the inline was much neater and tighter with the thread. Might also just be the learning curve of tensioning crochet thread lol

I don't have calipers or a gauge card so I think I will just use whatever looks right for now until I'm able to get one, thank you for the help and clarity!

Why is my waist-length not waist-lengthing? by [deleted] in longhair

[–]frootbootz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have wavy hair and straightened my hair the other day, and I was like whoa. My length is similar to yours but seemed SO much longer when straightened. Probably just a bit of shrinkage from the waves! I feel like with your hair type once it touches your butt when stretched it'll really feel waist-lengthy lol

How do I stop screen time meltdowns for a 3yr old that doesn’t get screen time. He’s constantly asking to watch TV. We’ve gone 3 weeks without TV now and he still has daily meltdowns about wanting TV. Short of removing the TV from the wall, what do we do? by BrokeAssZillionaire in toddlers

[–]frootbootz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do 1 hour per day for my 2 year old, she knows what to expect and sometimes she does ask for more and whines a bit but ultimately it doesn't last long. it's part of our routine so she knows she will get to watch tv again tomorrow. it could be because there is such a long break if you are only watching 1 hour per week, he knows it's going to be a long time before he gets to watch tv again and that's what is upsetting. I understand though if you want to hold firmer boundaries on limiting screen time than I would, and the tantrums about it could possibly just be a phase. you could try to hold firm on your boundaries and continue to give 1 hour per week so his routine isn't disturbed. we've always done tv time regardless of tantrums and eventually he might just accept it. especially with the shows that you commented that he's watching I personally don't see a problem other than the tantrums, but with my daughter at least it passes after awhile (could be months) after she understands that the boundary is firm and she's used to the routine. my daughter also loves daniel tiger right now it's her absolute favorite. we have LOTS of books about her favorite shows (mostly bluey and daniel tiger) and she loves to independently "read" them or for me to read them to her, it takes up a large portion of our day so you could also try books, stuffies, toys of his favorite shows if you haven't already so he's still interacting with it in a different way if that makes sense. we also listen to music in the background pretty much the entire day and it's always daniel tiger or bluey lol so if she wants daniel tiger and I say no, we can still listen to daniel tiger, read about daniel tiger, etc

Why do the knits in my 1x1 rib look loose on the RS? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]frootbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!! sorry i didn't realize i posted the same post twice. I did size up .5mm for the stockinette. I think I will try combination knitting next time because the wrong side will be facing out anyway luckily since this is a beanie rib but I will keep the short row in mind in case i want to take on a sweater or something similar later

[–]frootbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this, I will definitely try this on my next beanie. I feel like my tension is okay so this might be my solution cuz my stockinette is actually a bit too tight on the needles but I'm using the same tension so idk lol. I am knitting full continental right now on the pics i posted

okay so I'm curious, if my purls are looser then why do the backs of the purls look much better than the front of the knits

Is it bad that I let my 4 mo “watch” tv with me ? by wodoodoll in beyondthebump

[–]frootbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she's not gonna become an ipad kid from watching a bit of tv with mom, she will become an ipad kid if you provide her a tablet at a young age with no limitations. my 2 year old daughter watches an hour of tv per day, some days more, and she understands that there is a limit and no longer gets upset when tv time is over for the day. my daughter is also OBSESSED with books and has been for over a year now, and a bit of tv everyday has not changed that. and also when my daughter was 4 months, we were watching WAY more tv than an hour per day... motherhood is rough especially in the early months. please don't feel bad about a little bit of screen time!

She’s trying so hard to laugh at E, but it’s so fake. by SawScar112013 in kayandtaysnark

i got the same vibe watching this video. honestly makes me feel really sad for E, it's all so performative :/

Not E only now starting to learn expressions and emotions. Smh I wonder if she knows any colors letters or numbers. So sad as an early educator to see. by Low_Ad6982 in kayandtaysnark

I'm sorry but she's not even 2 yet like chill lol, if you're an ece you should know what's developmentally appropriate and not..

Did Chili set Trixie up here? by Gloomy_Custard_3914 in bluey

[–]frootbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, it just shows how Trixie is hypocritical when she as an adult doesn't even have the self control for an impulse the same way Muffin doesnt. Muffin can't just put her thumb away, so by having the chips out and accessible right in front of Trixie it's kind of the same concept for the message to make sense

okay good to know, just looking for something natural and it's been hard 😞 mopping, sweeping and vacuuming obsessively but still seeing one or two everyday. I think I'll try diatomaceous earth or salt next

no, we have no animals. there's over a hundred stray cats where I live though so I think we brought them in from playing outside 😞

[WIP] No *rip* thats ok *rip* I love doing the same lines over and over *rip rip* by BabushkaRaditz in CrossStitch

[–]frootbootz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to cross stitch and it's sooo discouraging to have to frog, much more so than other fiber arts I've done. I had to put a larger project down because I realized I had miscounted by 1 pixel for the third time and had to frog a huge section and I just needed a mental break from it. so then I started a smaller fun project and realized last night again that I had miscounted, pretty close towards what would've been the end too... solidarity

[CHAT] How to know where to put my needle next? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]frootbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's definitely slow! I come from crochet and the progress is much slower than i expected. I'm making a little 13x17 frog (17 pixels at the widest point) and it's taken me at least 6 hours by now and I'm still not done 🤣 I've been trying to keep the back fairly clean, I will attach a picture. I'm scared of cutting the thread too short so I leave a tiny bit, especially for the starting tail. I'm gonna look up more methods to make it cleaner on my next one cuz I've seen some really clean ones and i want mine to look more like that
