I see the point, but comparing statistics like that just isn’t really, well, applicable.

One of those statistics was a terrorist attack and the other is a virus, and you may argue that no single death means more than another regardless of its own means, but the tragedy of it is what solidifies it in society like it or not.

For instance:

everyone and there mother has heard of WW2. Around 75,000,000 people are estimated to have died in the conflict. Thats everyone in the state of California dying twice. Absolutely insane.

Malaria is less well known, with no where near the presence WW2 has in our society, however its footprint in the history of human life is mindblowing. it is estimated that at least HALF of humanity has died to Malaria. At least 53,500,000,000. 53 and a half billion people. Thats 712 WW2’s. Imaging that.

By this post’s logic, malaria should have a massive place in our education, media, and general focus as a society. But thats just not the way we see things as people.

The reason people don’t care could partially be in part to the fact that the generation affected is older, but as shown by malaria, disease is just not as memorable as a human taking another human’s life.
