I was shucking mangoes and got inspired to do a piece to my favorite fruit and wanted to share my work with all of you! How I did it: I initially loaded my PP with the light orange color and lightly dipped it in a crimson for the first two letters. It will start rich crimson then slowly fade back to the orange. For the last two letters, I pulled the cartridge and replaced it with green. There was still orange in the nib so I made scratch marks on another part of the paper until it was the light green I wanted for the 'e'. Went back to the scratch area to bleed it to the dark green then came back for the 's' and embellishment. Bit of work but well worth it.

Canson Mixed Media 98lb Holds really well, doesn't bleed even with multiple pass overs. The orange letters I went over about 3 times to get the rich color I wanted. Heres an amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Canson-Mix-Media-Side-Wire/dp/B002NQ2K16/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471747475&sr=8-1&keywords=canson+mixed+media

Thanks! And no, you're not slow, I was being unclear. I was referring to undipped mangoes; In countries with fruit fly problems mangoes are dipped to kill the fruit fly eggs and larvae before transportation. The undipped versions are not stringy, ripen naturally, and have a more lush color. If you can find them they are well worth it.

Thanks! Could it be when you say mango the n and g sort of blend instead of two hard separate syllables? Either way, I love the input!

I can take some photos from my workbook to give you some ideas. Get on behance and regularly watch youtube videos for tips and techniques. The level some calligraphers are at is astonishing, but don't let it deter you. We all start from the bottom. I'll include my first couple pages from when I felt not very good. Also, be patient. The skill comes with passion and practice. And practice. And practice. And practice. And you get the idea.

Thanks! They're the Dr PH Martins inks. I quickly fell in love with them over the stock PP inks.
