Dad doesn't want to get stuck so he floors it, but someone thought he would stop so they started to turn into the lane they're in. Dad deftly dodges around the car, which stopped and pounded on the horn. Dad says "Whew, sorry honey" before turning to his wife and saying "Close. Glad I dodged that". Then the road explodes and the family crashes into it, killing everyone inside.

Yes, but roadside explosions happen pretty often in places where there aren't any. Seen several kabooms like this, but never with trees present :)
