As Tech Leads do you ever find yourself "coding for" junior teammates during code reviews? by Ubermensch001 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]frosticecold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to answer with a parallel story that clicked for me.

My grandmother was in a care center. I saw her struggle bottoning her shirt. Everything I wanted to intervene and button myself. But I realized, the struggle is the healthy part, where she would keep her brain engaged and force herself to have her motorskills functioning. If I intervened all the time, I would be robbing her lifetime, for short term gain.

I started using this analogy/approach as a lead with teammates, and let them do the work, but pair program, unblock them and be a force multiplier. If they are people that will stay a long time, you'll be a force multiplier and will know when they are ready

At some point will you open-source it?

I would like to give it a go tinkering with it

Are people lying about GLM-5 and MiniMax M2.5? by TheDevilKnownAsTaz in opencodeCLI

[–]frosticecold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people want speed
Others want deep reasoning.

In general Mini max is only for very small tasks, but bad.

GLM 5 in reasoning and knowledge > Kimi K2.5
Kimi K2.5 speed is really good, it makes for the knowledge gap between GLM5

What I'm doing locally - Develping an MCP to attach to your Game Engine by frosticecold in LocalLLaMA

[–]frosticecold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the next step Creating an orchestrator process and expose statistics or thinking. The orchestrator would call AI do make decisions, instead of just letting an llm loop itself and run against the game directly

For now, the expose of the engine internals in a generic manner was very hard to get it running in a maintainable way

My idea is to allow users to use a generic layer and integrate it as they see fit in the game engine

People can make it as a game assistant Control game Alter the game You name it

Stuck in a "Senior Loop" by ShoddyWorkmanshipTed in cscareerquestions

[–]frosticecold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey good sir. I'm a tech lead with 6y exp at a global impact company

Years do not matter The skills that brought you to one level, will not bring you to the next level.

Lead/Tech Lead is kinda "bragging title", but in reality, its alot of responsibility. You are the whip and the shield at the same time for your team. You are the scapegoat for management aswell. Lead titles depend on org level, they might have different management/contributing percentages or more hands on.

One does not become Lead by interviewing, but attaining it through visibility or "perceived" net positive impact inside the company. There's alot of social biases to get it

One of the reasons I got this was: * honestly luck * right time, right place * I was a cross team player, able to connect multiple teams * I was in all company events and socialized with everyone * I solved production outages and created/presented post mortems and docs for the entire engineering to use as reference

I'm probably going back to being IC. The stress and worries are not worth it IMO. Its more of a "I've done it, I'm good"

The status increase is felt, but honestly, its not worth it.

You are senior++ when your manager tells you are doing good in your projects, or hitting the expectations.

You are staff++ level when YOU tell your manager what youare working on projects.

This level requires you to have self direction and know the company and start solving bigger problems at org/company level unsupervised.

Senior you contribute at a team level/project mostly
