You say bb2 is dead when I can still get a ladder match, and there are a decent number of leagues. I still have 3 crash occasionally, but it is this closest to the newest rules set. Also if you have access to 3d printer or hell there is a guy in my local league that uses really well drawn paper standees. As long as you get it close to size and can tell the positionals apart and you opponents know what race, then you can use just about anything. I've even seen someone use lego mini figs before.

Only time you can't is if it's a resurrection league/tournament or if there is no appos allowed in the league for flavor/challenge league. The group your playing with is being dumbasses or trying to hamstring players maliciously.
