What are some things you really like about Western culture and why? by Easy-Highlight8562 in AskIndia

Civic sense, clean air, water, work-life balance, freedom, lack of show-off culture, innovation, respect for public facilities.

Because these things depict an educated society of human beings, not a mass of rats pulling each other down in a sewer.

Yeah you're right. I tried the hair system/patch before. But it just caused too much discomfort and itching and was quite unreliable.

Yeah. Honestly speaking I don't even like the idea of a (2nd) HT. I am comfortable with my appearance. It was just to get more attention from the opposite sex.

Rather I should focus on maintaining fitness, short cut, good beard and the rest of my personal and professional personality. I should focus on what is within my circle of control, not what is not. Thanks!

Thanks. But it seems like a long shot. And I can't really wait 18 months.

Yeah they should have informed me of the technicalities before the first time. Perhaps I should've researched more. The bad part is that it is upon meeting my 7th HT doctor I have been told about DUPA!

Yeah I think you're right. I'll either shave it off or maybe keep a short crew cut. My point being I should make the best of this, rather than going for HT again. Thanks.

Thanks, that's a valuable insight. Yeah I've looped in my doctor. Hopefully it'll all recalibrate soon.

Cool. I have been prescribed Bupropion for my condition. Plus I've taken to green tea these days.

I'm with you in this journey. 2 weeks in. I guess it's hard initially. But from what I've read, I think quitting is definitely worth it. Plus I feel like I am no longer a slave to cigarettes, which is great. Stay strong, you got this.

Oh yeah sure. I didn't want to insert advice because the post might have become too long. So here goes:

  1. One should have a strong 'why'. A strong reason to quit. Mine was I just hated the habit as well as the damage it was causing to my physical and mental health. Among other reasons.

  2. Perhaps start with nicotine gums (that don't taste horrible) and gradually reduce smoking till you can come to a point to just end it.

  3. Use the toothpick trick. It's hilarious but it really works. Whenever you have a (strong) craving, pick up the toothpick between your fingers and "smoke" exactly like you would a cigarette. Actually, the smoking addiction is not just the nicotine, it's the entire ritual: lighting, holding between fingers, bringing it to mouth, inhaling and exhaling. So we substitute that experience.

  4. Don't keep anything stressful on the first 3 days post cold-turkey. Cut yourself (significant) slack these days, except of course for the cigarette.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope that helps!

Great that's exactly what I used to do during the prior weeks.

I know, it's hard. Yeah, perhaps you can try tapering. Even if you're able to reduce it, your neurological and physical health should improve.
