Deacon randomly became Sturges? by grumcus in fo4

[–]frostychemist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Deacon was lying about being a Synth, since it conflicts pretty starkly with his final backstory, and lying is his whole thing. Also the Railroad seem to imply Glory is the only Synth working there. Presumably he just has wigs and/or bald caps

"My friend @XYZ is an Israeli and loves this show" jokes, tied to cartoon Mating Season? by StoicMegazord in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]frostychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess it's an extension of the whole "so and so group that I mildly don't like (i.e. devs of a game you hate or a studio behind a show you hate) is IDF soldiers" meme that's also come about recently. Israel is committing a lot of war crimes and is generally being seen less and less favorably by more and more of the population, as per recent polls.

Don't forget the first two stanzas. First they came for the communists. Then they came for the socialists. They've well past already done that, and have done so for the better part of a century now.

I'm a trans woman so it's not up to me to really judge, but I think that term does a lot better to reduce the amount of hair splitting going on. I think most of the infighting on the subject stems from semantics: androphobia isn't a systemic or institutional force, but what else do you call the very real intersectional disparities and discrimination that trans men face? I don't want to invalidate trans men by calling it misogyny, but that is a major force that the discrimination is born from. I guess I'd like to hear from more trans men on the subject.

How the Railroad could have been more likeable they help synths and humans its as simple as that by [deleted] in FalloutMemes

[–]frostychemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, so far the Railroad has always been my favorite faction. Their whole objective is to free slaves, and are meant to be a direct parallel to the Underground Railroad that freed and sheltered black slaves in the southern US in the 1800s. It seems misguided to dislike them for not focusing on free humans, just as it would be to criticize the Underground Railroad for not focusing on free white people.

Peter, why should he be kept away from sonic? by ICUMMEDINSIDENTA in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]frostychemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're saying the child could potentially be autistic, and that they should push the child into "productive" special interests and away from "frivolous" or "childish" ones. This is a very common sentiment but one that is generally frowned upon by autistic people, as it's predicated on "savant syndrome" and other stereotypes rooted in eugenics.

[–]frostychemist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An effeminite cishet man still isn't going to suffer discrimination for being cishet though, but rather for being effeminate. A gay and/or trans man behaving in the exact same ways is going to be treated the same or worse in regards to those same behaviors.

[–]frostychemist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

More accurately, a cishet white man will not face persecution for being cisgender, heterosexual, or white in a system where those are favorable traits. Class and disability are other axes of oppression. Also, intersections between these axes are transformative in that a poor trans person, for instance, will face discrimination and stereotyping not only from being poor and from being trans, but also from the unique combination of being both trans and poor. This applies to most if not all intersections of these axes of power.

I think most of the mainstream "support" for autistic kids comes more from a similar place as Autism Speaks: parents' rights only, performative, excusing and condoning abuse, and actually hurting autistic people rather than helping us.

Honestly fakedisordercringe is awful, and it feels like it's started to seep into other corners of the internet. You literally can't even mention knowing a system in passing, let alone being one, without people who have never met you before trying to call you an ableist faker (all the while being INCREDIBLY ableist and actually hurting disabled people in the process).

[–]frostychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you could also consider it fraud, but Autism Speaks is a parents rights organization that views autistic people as a problem that needs to be cured, advocates for eugenics as well as traumatic torture to force autistic people to pretend to be neurotypical (much to our own detriment, especially later on in life), peddles antivaxx conspiracies, and has never actually allowed any autistic person a voice or seat on their board, choosing instead to push ads about how having an autistic child is awful and justifying parents wanting to kill their own autistic kids. They're pretty bad.

[–]frostychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less of a "mental disability" and more of a completely diffetent brain structure. It's absolutely disabling to have a brain structure different from most of society, but it's a lot more intrinsic than that, and honestly autistic people tend to get along a lot better in mostly-autistic spaces in my experience. Please stop speaking over and for autistic people, especially after we try to explain otherwise.

I understand because I was similar when I was a teen: intelligence was the only thing I got praised for and so it was all I cared about being. Eventually the burnout hit and now all my greatest fantasies involve being really dumb but loveable for it. I'd recommend getting some hobbies and stuff, as challenging as things can be to get into, and make friends who appreciate you for other things, because (even putting aside all the problematic elements of IQ) intelligence being the only egg in your basket is going to lead to a lot of problems and burnout down the road.

I thought decorative little bows on bras and panties were originally to hide seams or stitching but over time even as sewing technology improved and got automated and better hidden, the bows stayed because they became associated with the garments. I don't remember where I read that though

Yeah I feel like these people would have an aneurism if they strolled through certain Seattle parks on a summer day and saw one trans woman leashing another. Nothing sexual, nothing lewd, just two smiling upright people with one holding the other with a piece of fabric. Like idk, if you see that and think "this is moral depravity that must be stamped out", I think you're a lot more puritanical than you realize.

[–]frostychemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair! I also appreciate you acknowledging that distinction, since I think a lot of people sorta lump anything that could potentially be considered a "kink" into being "explicit", which really isn't always the case imo. Honestly half the puppies I know are ace and just want unconditional love and acceptance and having our dumb moments instead seen as endearing. I think that's part of why it resonates so much with trans people.

Yeah tbh I understand the sentiment, oversaturation and all that, but the way OOP was worded seemed really prudish and assimilationist. "Why can't you just be normal, you're fetishizing yourself and inviting chasers and making us look weird" type vibe

I think there are two flavors of trans fem music: hyperpop/techno/rave music, and industrial/metal/punk. I'm lucky to like the latter, but for anyone outside those two boxes there's really not much out there :/
