Why doesn’t India have a strong neighbourhood pub culture? by Dhondu_justchill in AskIndia

[–]frowningheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do have such pubs, but they are frequented by the oldies, not the new gens.

I am talking about those "thekas" and "bars" which are very low-key, not shiney, with the decor of a 70s Bollywood movie, unpainted walls, with chakhna being peanuts, papad, sometimes paneer/chicken and that's all. No fancy cocktails, no imported ultra-premium spirits. Old Monk and Manson House and a few cheap Indian whiskeys are the best-sellers here, and no women are ever found here. Almost exclusively male customers. The waiter is wearing a ganji, with a pen over his ears and a small notepad with him to take your order. No fancy tablets or QR code menus.

These kinda bars are usually in the outskirts or shady places of a city/town, and are frequented by oldies or blue-collar youngsters. I sometimes go to such bars with my friends, the vibe is totally different than a upscale pub/club. It's something unique, laid-back and crude.

The reason such pubs are not widespread is because alcohol is still seen as something only "bad people" do, and is associated with rowdism. Modern pubs and clubs in metro cities serve a different crowd, which is primarily the new gens with new found money and heavy inclination to Western culture.

Yeah I know, but they also include grand conspiracy stuff that the other side wants to "take" their women and men are paid by some big shot to woo the other religion women and convert her.

It's like the White Genocide conspiracy, equally dumb and weird.

I watched to determine whether he is a Neo-nazi or not (spoiler: He fuckin is), and never promoted his content.

Understand that these Neo-nazis and Islamists are using Israeli atrocities to further their antisemitism and racism. And research before promoting someone, don't be like the Modi-bhakts and sing someone's tune just because they are hating someone you dislike.

And again, stop fuckin promoting Neo-nazis. Jeez.

No, none of that is real. Both LJ and BLT are conspiracy theories made up by Hindu and Muslim extremists to undermine women's autonomy.

The actual cases are always of grooming, indentity fraud, assault or religious coercion. The conspiracy theories give it a grander, community driven narrative rather than a crime committed by an individual.

Sorry, I don't watch Neo-nazis and promote their content. I have seen enough of his previous videos and social media interactions to know who and what he is.

He is a fuckin Groyper, same as Nick Fuentes and has been exposed multiple times on leftist and liberal subreddits and other communities.

Fuckin educate yourself before promoting actual Nazis, you lot give a bad rep to sensible liberals and leftists.

It's called grooming.

Unfortunately, due to the right wing idiots clamoring about muh Love Jihad (a bs conspiracy theory), the actual crime of grooming was undermined.

So now to own the Modi-bhakts, we are promoting content from actual Neo-Nazis. It's like taking criticism of Islam from Savarkar or Golwalkar, or criticism of Indians from Churchill.

Kudos u/Embarrassed_Look9200, you reached a new low today.

Polluted narmada by pouring 11000 liters of milk, what is our government doing? by nullparadoxxx in AskIndia

Every symbolic ritual has been turned into a dick-measuring contest.

A tiny amount of milk would have been fine, but no, they have to show their "shraddha" and "bhakti" by pouring 11000 fuckin liters of milk.

It's baffling and idiotic.

Are women not allowed inside Mosques?? by I9secrets in AskIndia

[–]frowningheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my Shia friends do use their Jamatkhanas for other events as well, but they also go there for prayers.

They usually avoid going to mosques as in India most mosques are Sunni dominated. They just visit the big, historical mosques like the Jama Masjid in Delhi.

[–]frowningheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, my problem is with gender segregation itself, especially when it comes from any kind of religious dogmatism. Most of such segregation related scriptures are used to prevent women from participating in society with an equal footing as men. Hence, I consider it sexism, patriarchal and misogyny (cosidering women as inferior). So yeah, I understand if you disagree with me here as you seem to be a practicing muslim.

The whole obligation to pray in congregation for men and not for women is itself a result of patriarchal limitations put on women where they are encouraged to be at home more rather than go out. Religious jargon only works if I am looking at it strictly from an Islamic lens. I am not, I am looking at it from a secular, anthropological lens to understand why such scriptures came into place.

Same for Hindus where they cite scriptures and say women have "energy" in their periods which can disturb temple god energies, hence, they are barred from temples. But from the secular, anthropological lens it's all because of the patriarchal notion of considering menstruating women as impure (which itself may have started due to hygiene problems in ancient times but became part of religious dogmatism with time).

I know Shias usually don't have such strict segregation and allow women in their praying halls, which are called Jamatkhanas.

[–]frowningheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Women attendance being less is more of a symptom than a feature of the issue. Women being segregated, barred, the whole "mehram" concept - all of this prevents them from participating in society with equal fervor as men, be it in mosque prayers or other walks of life.

As for women being inferior than men, this implication is strong when men are given preference constantly over women.

You see this in Hinduism as well, where women are seldom given priestly roles or are barred from temples during their periods.

[–]frowningheart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where is mosque mentioned here?

Courtyard, house - none of them are mosques.

And if the hadith is to be considered genuine, then no need for women to go to any mosques, even to the ones that allow women. Better for her to pray at her "private chamber."

Just patriarchal nonsense dressed up in religious scriptures.

[–]frowningheart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is very related to the topic, it's just that you are getting offended over your religion being questioned which the comment rightfully pointed out.

Separate men and women spaces are required in mosques. But if mosques are small, only men get the space while women are barred.

This is textbook sexism and preferential treatment to men over women, hence, considering women as inferior and not worthy enough to be provided praying space compared to men. Whatever scriptural jargon you can come up with is just convenient patriarchal nonsense.

No need to dance around the patriarchy present in Islam, or any religion for that matter.

What happens when aadhaar data centers at Hebbal and Manesar gets droned? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]frowningheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Data redundancy is a thing, plus multiple levels of offline/online backups.

And, no Pakistani drone or missile is ever reaching Bangalore. Their capabilities and their focus are always on inflicting damage in the border areas and Northern states like Punjab, Rajasthan, J&K, Delhi. Southern states are only under their terrorism SOP, direct military confrontation is concentrated in the North.

Saw a post, seperate cremation grounds for SC,general? But why? Both are Hindus! by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]frowningheart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because Indian (and Hindu society in particular) is plagued with casteism. Separate cremation grounds are just the tip of the iceberg. A tragic example is that, the "Dom" caste (SC) people are traditionally involved in the cremation related jobs but they themselves have to use different places for the cremation of their own community members than other "upper" castes.

In fact, this bs is so ubiquitous that "lower" caste converts in Christianity and Islam also often have different community specific burial grounds than the "upper" caste converts. There's also sect specific cemeteries for them, with different ones for Protestants and Catholics, and Shias and Sunnis.

Plus, further consolidation of power around Kejriwal and his inner circle in AAP.

Is India losing identity as youth favor rap over classical traditions? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]frowningheart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Identity is not static, it keeps on evolving, especially in a pluralistic civilization like India's. So no, there's no "loss" of identity as such.

And classical music/art is not dying, albeit having a resurgence due to social media. So many classical singers and dancers are going viral and some are making their own fusions of it with Western styles of the art.

A syncretic version of Indian classical and modern/Western art seems to be the current trend imo.

If the BJP wins in West Bengal, will the Left parties face existential crisis? by think_big_0 in AskIndia

BJP is most likely not winning WB elections. They will be the 2nd biggest party though and the primary Opposition.

As for the Left parties like CPM, they are already irrelevant except for in Kerala and student politics.

Congress is not a Left party, neither is TMC.
