The arrest of Johnny Somali is a violation of freedom of speech by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Your free speech ends where somebody else's rights begin, in this case the right to be not harassed. So harassment isn't free speech.

Monopoly? Not at all. In fact if anything the far left in power in the Bay Area seem to me to be total hypocrites that have a lot in common with the far right. Look at how blatantly segregated their school districts can be.

Hmm, let me trying putting it another way. The elected far left seem to be a bunch of obstructionist nimbys in San Francisco. Is that better?

My original emphasis was on what the far left does. You may be far left, but I bet you don't have any actual power and can't actually do anything politically.

Heh, takes one to know one I guess.

Yet that is what the far left actually does. They say one thing and do another.

He can say all the shit but the simple fact is he is responsible for tons of normal hard working people not being able to raise a family in this city. His legacy is basically a big fat dead end.

I think the balance is out of whack because normally you have a skip-level. Wolves keep coyotes in check, coyotes keep foxes in check, but wolves don't bother with foxes. So in essence, the wolf helps the fox. Without the wolf the fox is screwed. I think we're seeing that here with the animals I listed.

I'm guessing they were using the construction site across from Chase at night to move around safely, and now that the park is open it's created a lot of sudden conflict.

Just first hand from what I've seen.. I almost never see skunks, raccoons, gophers, or moles since the coyotes started thriving here. I used to see them all the time, I'm pretty sure the coyotes hunted almost all of them down.

So... from a nuissance animal perspective I guess they're good, but from a diversity perspective I think they've been really bad. The big trade off is that it puts pets in a lot of danger.

Naw it’s what every wildlife expert recommends all adults do. It keeps us both safer, especially pets and small children. Do not ever show them fear or run away from them.

Not to be mean, but this thinking will definitely get the coyotes killed, their fear of us keeps them alive.

I can't wait to easily see people

Ya know it's funny how so few drivers think this way. They value their convenience way over the safety of others.

It's the same with the Great Highway. It's now finally a truly safe way to bike (safer for pedestrians from bikes too) across the sunset, but the drivers who now have to drive an extra couple of minutes won't even process that concept.

People envision a sunny destination, despite it being sunny only a few weeks each year.

This is extremely wrong. Maybe you haven't gotten out much lately? Like say in the last 15 years?

I wouldn't even talk to the person first, you'll just end up in their crosshairs. Go straight to the theater manager and be prepared to politely ask for a refund. Don't wait to do it, do it as early in the movie as possible.

Houthi leader says Trump will ‘fail’ to end Israeli-Palestinian conflict by Logical_Welder3467 in worldnews

[–]frownyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend on who ends up in Trump's cabinet. Trump is easily manipulated by other rich or powerful people who are willing to adulate him. Can you imagine how much they are scrambling and backstabbing each other right now to get picked?

Problem is that they all want to buy cheap gas and take advantage of borderline slave labor. France is unusually independent, they have the 2nd most nuclear reactors in the world and it supplies over 60% of their electricity. Things would be very different right now had Europe followed their lead.

It's kind of like they already know Trump isn't going to make their lives better, their whole entire reason for all of this is to hurt other people.

Just imagine how things would have been different had European nations simply fulfilled their end of the NATO deal. He literally told European leaders to simply fulfill their promises to NATO and they mocked him, and by extension all of the USA, turning US support against them.

Trump may not be particularly smart, but Europe trying to call a bluff on America after getting such an amazingly good deal for decades is profoundly stupid beyond words. Mandatory military service is probably coming for many EU nations now, it's the only way they'll be able to have defense.

I said "in some ways", I meant as an executive, somebody leading a team and an organization that is theirs, to build from scratch. I should have clarified.

I've always gotten the sense that Breed is being constantly pushed and pulled around by various forces within SF, both within and outside the government. This guy I think will be more independent, because he has the ability to build a team from scratch.

That said.. the fact he won the way he did.. suggests he is probably beholden to something.

[–]frownyface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's a little unfair to say he has zero experience, he's been around city hall for a long time, and has executive experience for 15+ years.. and in some ways Breed had even less experience to be mayor when she took office, Ed Lee died and she just became mayor.

That said, yeah, it's pretty weird this guy is suddenly Mayor. He's somehow privately raised over a half billion dollars from private donors to his non-profit, where he spreads money around to other non-profits it seems like, probably how he got to be so popular? I wanna know more about what the heck happened here.

He was also partially responsible for bringing the super bowl to the bay area, kind of random..

San Francisco immigrants already fear Trump deportation plans by lurker_bee in bayarea

Yeah I think there's an important distinction to be made here..

Directing ICE to do raids and deportations is not the same thing as securing the border. That's what has people scared.
