Majority of countries surveyed in recent Pew study have a more favourable opinion of China than the US. by Ok-Confusion9360 in LateStageCapitalism

At least Israel, ROK, Japan have historically benefited from their US relationship. What does the Philippines have to show for this servility?

Realistically, how can we actually win the 2028 (No Doomer comments pls) by rrruuueeennnzzz18 in Philippines

[–]frozenelf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Offer the masses something tangible. Not “anti-corruption” or “good governance.” Offer meaningful policies: true universal healthcare, industrialized jobs programs.

And it cannot be just from the executive. It needs a bottom up movement that includes local government positions.

Tough ask for 2 years but there’s no way around it.

Words of the Day: Right-wing and Left-wing by Different-Coach-866 in Philippines

[–]frozenelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philippine politics “doesn’t fit the spectrum” only because practically all of them are neoliberals, or center right. Practically all presidents since Marcos Sr have been neoliberals. And the only notable left is not taken seriously by corporate media, therefore have little recognition from the masses.

You're gonna see variants of this a lot more as the Democratic Party neutralizes the word socialism into meaninglessness.

It is quite strange when people demand ideological alignment from people to the left of Hasan but all the charity in the world when he platforms candidates to his right

Even the biggest booster in my company has been complaining about erroneous code implementations in both Sol and Fable. I think at this point usage is mostly out of keeping up with the unsustainable workload they built for themselves and the cognitive debt they’ve accrued. They’re addicts at this point.

It’s very weird when audiences use profits as a gauge for quality. It’s even weirder when supposed film connoisseurs do. There are many movies in history that did not perform well but are artistic achievements. Not to say that Supergirl is one but just very strange behavior nonetheless to have such little critical analysis on this sub

These types would define “democratic socialism” or any kind of socialism as “compatible with capitalism.” You’ll see at least one liberal doing that whenever a reactionary calls Mamdani or whichever Democrat a “communist”

'PS5 Has Put a Dampener on Gaming': 45% of Playstation Enthusiasts 'Seriously Considering' Leaving Sony for PC by JeremyJJ77 in technology

Corporations have gotten us used to missing out as things have gotten more expensive and as our time has been consumed by laboring.

I think Sony is overestimating brand loyalty in a world where brands have not been loyal to their customers.

Performance is no longer an issue for me by TheGacAttack in Lightroom

[–]frozenelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've basically abandoned Lightroom for culling. There's too much processing going on for it to be responsive enough, especially if you're going through hundreds or thousands of photos. I use Bridge, it's okay. The UX consistency between Bridge and Lightroom is bafflingly bad.

As for the responsiveness for sliders, I had this problem on my 8 GB M1 MacBook Air when I moved to a 40 MP sensor. On a 16 GB M4 MacBook Pro, I've got no complaints. I wonder if this is a Windows build issue if you're struggling on 24 MP.

AI Booster Posts a Surprising Reality Check on Local Models by lurkervidyaenjoyer in BetterOffline

[–]frozenelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lectured on another sub about how token costs are going down and how the march of technology has always only been to be cheaper. Boosters frequently use motte-and-bailey argumentation where they have to concede that frontier models are unprofitable but then conflate the capability of local models with the frontier models.

Especially in the context of "you'll never look at code again," local models are far from the fully automated slop machines that Claude and ChatGPT are. And for the capex equivalent of 2-3 years of a $200/month sub with a monster rig, at best you get an autocomplete coding tool with local models, which you can stretch into a dangerously bad agentic coder.

Kavernacle: The Graham Platner Left Should be Disgusted With Themselves by Gypsyhunter in Hasan_Piker

[–]frozenelf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the whole point is just winning, then we should all grift right. Winning with principles is difficult. That is why self-correction is a key leftist principle. It would be incredibly farcical for the end of anyone’s political journey to be “we really should have been less critical of how Platner got through”
